Does anyone have any resources/experience in this? Looking to compile some resources and maybe post however i figure it out

I fill plastic bags with housing insulation (the pink wool stuff) then just chuck my hands in them.

Insulated leather Kincos have been the most durable I've found if you are prone to shredding gloves. They are like $20 - $30 bucks at a hardware store so not too big of a deal to replace them.

If you really wanna go DIY, you could figure out some way to protect the palms with some extra leather.

Or maybe rough up the palms a lil bit with some coarse sandpaper and then do a coating of shoegoo before doing a few coats of snoseal

I'm assuming you are shredding them from a rope tow or something.

if you do end up gathering good materials, maybe a design or a material where the inner warm lining doesnt pack out as much, especially for a work/lifty style riding mitt. also padding on like the knuckles/thumb area for when youre getting spicy in the trees

buy the Kincos or if you are a hunter or trapper make your own out of hide. my guess is nutria is actually really good for this and your local authority will probably be on board with free nutria hunting

Wells Lamont mitts are not very expensive and have major drip. Another idea is to go to your local farm supply/hardware store and get some winter work mittens for like 20$ (they’ll be indestructible) and then coat them in snoseal

did this when i broke my wrist/hand. Worked wonderfully. Also had to duct tape my pole to that band which was pretty funny.

I cut the liners out of some old Kinco axemen. My mom knit me some mittens for christmas and sewed the finger tips in to get them to stay. Real warm and comfortable but I only use them w/o poles cause that feels a little weird since I've started using gloves again.

Like sewing you own mitts or just water proofing them?

I know a buddy who traps, then turns critters into super warm over mitts. Sewing leather is extremely difficult, even with a industrial sewing machine.

For water proofing get snow seal and rub it into your leather gloves. If your super careful you can warm them up in a oven. Just don't drip snow seal in the hot oven. It will smoke bad.

I would highly recommend double up on aluminum drip sheets.

I usually buy those $15 leather mittens you find up North in hunting stores and gas stations. They stand up to the rope for a while, cheap so you don’t have to worry, and pretty warm

You can buy leather scraps from tandy. You can probably find scraps big enough for mitts. They might have some patterns or instructions there too.

It was mentioned before but you can't sew it easy, most machines won't be able to do it so you'll likely end up doing it by hand.

Thanks for that tandy source, I'm actually a short drive from mississauga

the way . its looking, im likely going to try a canvas/knit/leather combo, to reduce the hand sowing
