DIY Project Thread

If anyone finds some cool DIY links feel free to post and share what it is for. If someone else think's it's cool they can also come back and check it out or whatever.

I am going to be getting my soldering iron for doing circuits in the next week or so and I'm going to start going hard on projects(hopefully)...

over the next few months to a year or two I have a couple project's I'm going to attempt.

one is trying to make my own Ultrasonic acoustic levitation device something like one of these:

(I feel like this one is going to take up a lot more time than I am expecting)

Link to some DIY pages of ultrasonic levitation:

Something else I'm going to be doing is making a Night vision flashlight using IR Diodes. I already have 100 Diodes, and a Rechargeable LED flashlight I'm going to use as simple switch to IR diodes instead of the LEDs. Will post when I'm done if anyone is interested. Not really going to be going from any sort of plan. I already have the wiring diagram in my head.

the idea is that it will look like this on my phone's camera when I am done:

Another one I'm probably going to be doing is this:

Burning laser lighter.

I found it back in 2009 and have been wanting to make a DIY burning laser since.

Feel free to share some other DIY projects you are interested in doing at some point.

Also if anyone finds some good places to buy parts for really cheap please share :)

I can usually find some decent prices for certain things on Alibaba or Amazon. Sometimes there are other random websites that have really good deals on circuitry items too.

I have seen some other DIY threads, but thought it would be cool to have one with more science type projects than just about doing backyard setups.

I wanna learn how to weld do make shit. Dunno what I want to make yet though. Currently apartment living inhibits me from starting, don't have much of a workspace for it.

How much does it cost to take a community college course on welding in your area?

Also something to look into is that Here we have this thing called makerspace where you get access you a bunch of stuff like 3D printing machines, welders and pretty much everything that gets donated and I think it's like $50 a month or so and you can do whatever you want as long as you pay the fee and can get time in the area you wanna use. Might be something to look into.

I just looked it up and apparently makerspace is available in quite a few areas.

This is the link for the local one here: http://www.makerspace.ca/cpages/home

Thanks man! Great info, I will look into some of this stuff. Never thought about doing a welding course at a local college either.

Currently making a bug net for my hammock cuz that shit is whey too expensive

I snagged a free hennessy hammock from REI with the built in bug netting and optional rain cannopy. I like it more than sleeping in my own bed and have already taken it on some overnight excursions around the neighborhood. Definitely reccomend it but a homemade one also sounds dope. Good luck!

Just finished sewing a 12 ft silpoly membrane hex tarp for my hammock camping setup, weighs like 10.5 oz and is like 1/4 the price of cuben. Ill try to string it up and take some pictures tomorrow

is it for a double nest or single?

For a fairly wide single, I would think it would work fine for either just with slightly longer tie outs for a double.

Bought a bug net at sports authority for $10, had some extra s-biners lying around. Only needed some minor adjustments to work with my hammock.

It currently just lys on the the ground but i might shorten it up and stitch it so it just surrounds my hammock

This suspension isnt necessary but I added it to create some more space inside

I also threaded some twist ties around the holes to hopefully reduce tearage. If this doesnt work Ill probably sew some reinforcement in

SUPER stoked to take this bad boy camping monday. Itll be nice but next project is the rain fly for those not so nice days
