Ive got some 03 atomic stomps that use the heavy heavy atomic 412 bindings. The one thing i hate about the skis are that you can only mount the atomic binding to the binding plate because the ski isnt flat at the waist. Do you think it will work, if I take the new bindings and get a perfect match of the bottom of the binding made out of steel to make a riser ( same idea as skateboard risers) and just drill threw the steel and secure the bindings to the skis using longer screws and if so will they hold?
 
i'd just take a strip of HDPE , then grind the profile out of the plate, and put it in between....
(HDPE because its easy to cut and handle + it wont break or become brittle in extreme cold) and its much lighter than metal like you suggested....
also make sure you get correct length of screws!
