District-9 Best Movie Ever Y/Y?

Really good movie, if "I Robot" was the best film about discrimination against robots, "District 9" is the best film about discrimination against robots.

And when the main character and that alien bust into MNU it's like HOLY SHIT.

I saw the premiere... it was soo epic. definitely worth the 10 bucks. Just dont read any reviews online, I did ahead of time and it completely spoiled half the movie for me without telling me

Everyone who is hating on this movie needs to shut the fuck up.

It was epic.

It was original, the effects were amazing, the plot was creative, the acting was excellent, the character development was great.

sure there were some cliche moments and whatnot but it was fucking exactly what you go to the movies to see. to get entertained. I needed to piss so fucking bad after about 10 minutes but i didnt leave at all because it was just so epic.

GO AND SEE THIS MOVIE.

It's no Citizen Kane or Godfather/Godfather II. However it's a breath of crisp fresh air next to other movies this summer like Transformers 2.

As far as "sci fi/aliens come to earth/humans literally explode when shot by an alien gun" movies go, this one was definitely the best. It wasn't nearly as cheesy as I was expecting it to be. And the way some of the shots were documentary style without it being Cloverfield-ish was rad too. Acting was so-so, with the exception of the main character who did an awesome job, in my opinion. I was also pretty happy with the ending, because as we all know, reality is never completely resolved like it is in mainstream cinema, so this was a nice touch as well.

I also really like the general idea that the humans are the antagonists in this film...not the other way around like 99% of shitty alien movies.

it's not out ink the uk so watched a crappy version online

definatley makes me want to go see it at cinema, i really enjoyed the fact it isn't the run of the mill alien film

Definetely worth seeing at the movies but it wasn't amazing or mind blowing. It was good for sure but nothing great

Don't read reviews or articles about it before you see it!

I thought it was good. It seemed kind of like the filming style cloverfield was going for, except it was actually good.

So since this is a discussion thread, I'm going to pose a question to those who have seen it.. you don't want spoilers dont read down...

So does anyone have any sound reasoning how the mothership was able to turn on and function 20 years after it ran out of fuel and stopped dead over South Africa?

I was thinking that maybe the fluid they harvested was just to power the control systems, and maybe when they ran out they were unable to pilot this ship... but then I thought.. why would Chris need to use "all the fluid to get home quickly" if it just powered the control systems?

Discuss.

Never mind, found a decent enough explanation.. once again spoilers below.

The story goes that the colony ship (or resourcer ship, forget which) is hit by some virus or disease, which wipes out the intelligent aliens (the queen, commanders, whatever). The drones, being hardy, strong workers, appear to be able to fight off the infection, to a point. Hence, when they're discovered, they're unhealthy and starving. They're sick (from the disease, as well as probably hunger from having no guidance), but not wiped out.

Similarly, this explains why there was zero extra fuel available. Nobody was harvesting it or producing it.

Lastly, why the ship arrived on Earth: He speculated that because their technology is all organically-infused, the ship was smart enough that once it lost guidance, it self-navigated to a planet with the resources to sustain life, and Earth was the nearest hit.

I'll try to find the source for all this.

^I dont see why people look into movies so much... Not once during the movie did i ever think about any of those issues... it doesnt make the movie better or worse for me.

honestly, i liked transformers 2 more....yeah, i said it. transformers 2 entertained me more. this movie was a little depressing throughout the ending.

giant fighting robots/ huge explosions > guys life getting destroyed while he mutates into an alien.

sorry, im not a film critic. i'm just a dude who doesnt care about how deep the plot is, and wants to see crazy shit go down on screen.

was all this said in the interviews in the beginning? this was without a doubt the best alien movie EVER. fuck all you ppl that think it wasnt worth 10 bucks, im going again.
1. it was realistic about relationships between different organisms and the problems that might really arise
2. the main character is a truly interesting and uncharacteristic hero
3. alien weapons KICK ASS

And no it wasn't explicitly said in the beginning interviews... just speculation based on what they said I guess. I didn't write that I found it on Google.

That was a lot to quote.

I'd though he meant that he needed the fuel to fly to the mothership in the smaller ship quickly, so they don't get owned by a missile. Maybe i just have a bad understanding of that part?

It was a great movie though, I think i'd see it again.

yeah dude word. there were certainly holes in the plot. i thought it was gonna suck just from watching the commercials for it and cause im not really into that genre of movies. it was aight.

loved it

anyone else notice how similar the alien weapons were to half-life 2 (/portal) weapons?

there literally was a gravity gun that that huge ass metal suit had, and it was sick

Mmmm yeah that could explain it but I'm almost certain he said "I need to use to it fly home quickly" implying his home planet I think. But definitely easy to miss.

Yeah the mech-suit was straight badass, especially when it intercepted the RPG. So sick. Too bad he was a total noob at handling it haha.. I woulda just held the bullet magnet constantly :P
