DIRECTIONAL POW SKI

44, 5"11, 195 pounds. Advanced skier? Ski Whitefish MT, mostly in the trees try to find pow. Dont ski in the park, dont ski switch. Not a hard charger. Like to slash and jump around a little, but nothing crazy. No big cliff drops, pretty mellow skier. 3rd year of skiing, ski 35-40 days a year.

In the past I skied Sir Francis Bacon and Magnum Opus. Wasn't really crazy about either of them, as they were too soft and got thrown around a lot. Granted, it was also my first 2 seasons skiing a lot. I also was skiing in some 80 flex Dalbellos and this year I upgraded to the Atomic Hawx 130 xtd and LOVE them.

This year I bought a pair of Blizzard Brahmas and really like them for groomer days. Not very playful, but I have gone faster this year on them than I ever have in the past. 46 mph so far, don't really see me going much faster than that. Fun to carve when the snow is firm. I used these on hard packed days or when night skiing in the crud.

I also got a pair of Sakanas and really like them. They are a blast in soft snow and the little bit of tree skiing that I have done so far this year (still a little skinny in the trees for my liking).

With both of these being more of a traditional mount point, I am thinking about getting rid of the Magnum Opus and going towards a more directional ski. I am looking for something that will be great in the morning pow, as I almost always get first few chairs, but will be good for busting through crud once everything gets pushed around.

I have always skied skis that are fairly light, up until the Brahma, and i kinda like the heavier feel. Not sure how the heavier skies will be in the trees though, but I have my Sakanas for that.

I found a good deal on some Black Ops 118 as well as some older Bent Chetlers. Should I go with something heavier like these, even though they are twin tip and more of a center mount, or is there a better option in something more directional? Love the look of the new BC 120s, but don't know if it would be that much different than my MOs

The old Bent Chet are similar to the BO 118 in that they aren’t the stiffest but aren’t the softest skis, so they are nice and playful but their heavier weight keeps them stable still. The BO 118 is quite heavy so it’s insanely stable and destroys crud. Most stable powder ski out there I think.

The new Bent 120 is very light so it’s at the opposite end of crud buster scale but it is very playful and would make a great touring powder ski. Even lighter than your Magnum Opus skis. The Line Outline would be very playful and surfy in powder and was pretty good when things got tougher. Still not class leading but decent for their weight.

Still love the Moment Wildcat as a fantastic ski that’s similar weight to your MO skis but much more stable at speed and through crud. Very surfy in trees and decent on soft groomers still.

Another great ski in this range is the Revolt 121. Heavier than the Wildcat but still way lighter than the BO 118 and very versatile in all conditions like the Wildcat.

And soon the k2 Reckoner 122 should be out which I bet will be similar to the Wildcat/Revolt 121 in that they should do everything pretty well.
