DIN setting

i just had my bindings adjusted for some new boots and when i got my skis back from the shop they put the din up at ten, i was wondering if that is correct or if i should lower it cause im really afraid of busting my knees.

6'5" 235lbs Aggressive skier 60/40 all mountain/park = what din setting.

I am 5'7" 140# and I ski all-metal sollies at 10 or 11.

So 10 is fine for you, but I would go 12+ if I were as big as you. Also depends how much you ski and how strong your legs are.

If you have markers put the din at like 300 :)

You are a big dude, but if you aren't comfortable with such a high DIN, lower it. Then, increase if you have some pre-mature release. Better to have a pre release and then just up the DIN to get it dialed then to hurt your knees.

that sounds good to me dude, your a really big guy. the settings are determined by a chart that factors in you height, weight, skier type, BSL and age(?? on the age part). 10 sounds right to me.

i am 17, and thanks for the help all you guys. the thing is i play basketball so if i hurt my knee skiing the coach isnt going to be too thrilled. haha.

How do you think he'll feel if you pre-release while charging and break your collarbone instead? For your weight and if you are really aggressive, a 10 setting sounds low. I'm 5'10" , 140 lbs, and ride a 9 DIN. Start conservative, then move it up if you pre-release. Play around with it.

^Im sure he and his coach would much rather the collar bone. but yeah ten sounds low for your size. my bro is your size and he rides at like 14 but you could be totally different skiers, so thats kinda irrelevant. test it on the hill and see what happens. you can also test it in ur house. snap in while standing on carpet (so you dont rocket around and break something on wood or tile) and try to kick your toe out sideways with your other foot nice and hard, and you can have someone stand on the tip and try to pull out. at the beginning of the year i usually just try those for a check. if you pre release on the hill just raise it a little, no big deal

it really depends on your bsl. if you have a small foot 10 seems about right but if its like 12.5+ id knock it down to 9.

i got a 11.5/12 shoe size, and im thinking ill keep em at ten for now. and plus its not like im gonna stop skiing for basketball so its all good!

yeah i have marker griffon bindings and the "recommended" din for me being a 3+ level skier and 6ft 140 lbs is about 7. which is really low. i ride mine at 9.5 and they only release when they absolute need them too. if anything i would just crank them on the high side because almost all bindings are gonna release before a bone breaks if you are riding with a resonable din. (not 14 din if your 95 lbs)
