Did skiing just die? Is there any more room for progression?

I'd say the only thing that is going to die is aerials skiing. Once the Olympics come around, I just don't see how aerials will be able to compete against slopestyle. I mean, we literally surpassed aerials skiing last night. switch triples, nose butter triples, different body positions and all that jazz...

And I also think we should probably stop with the 'skiing is aerials' saying, 'cause you know, aerials ain't got shit on the park game now.

HAHAHA Jesus. I remember years back when doubles were being thrown and everyone had this exact same conversation. It comes up every couple years.

Simply put: No. People will always be progressing. When doubles first started to happen, everyone was scared about the future saying "people will die" if they try to progress any further. And here we are.

in my opinion, its the judging thats the problem. E-dollos butter dub was way better then his triple grabbed, tweaked, and perfectly stomped, but get a shit score. in my books the butter dub won it, but errbody knows a hucked trip will win over a fucking sexy dub and if you can throw it and win... why the fuck not?

you know he did win right? and he threw a butter triple. unless you are talking about something else in which case just disregard this.

I feel like unless you are one of the pros competing, who cares? The only progression I care about is my own, which as of now is getting more than two spins down, let alone a quad 18. It's cool to watch the pros huck their meat but it's not like skiing will somehow stop when new rotations are done being discovered.

i still don't

the butter triple was a victory lap of epic proportions. i fail to see how anything's wrong with that

There going to have to take their skis off mid air throw it to the landing and click back in when they land

What they need to do is to scale back the jumps and force people to put style in with these tricks, because sure its great that you can throw a triple cork but if it is rushed, you barely get round to the landing and you could barely hold the grab, how is that worth it? And we can't forget that there are still doubles that some cannot do, or some that still havent even joined in on the dub club. Style cannot be forgotten, in my eyes, style is just as important in progression as landed that never before landed trick.

I think we'll see some of the same that happened in BMX, street (urban) is king (see Chad Kerely)and dirt/skate are having to become more style, flow oriented (see Dugan)

There was an inventor who said in the late 18 hundreds that everything that can be invented has been invented. Look at how much more we have now! Skiing will just keep progressing, jumps getting bigger and slopes steeper.

But at what point will it get too big? Average jump size at resorts have multiplied in size in the last 10 years. Fuck not having any style and spinning fast, at what point does it just become too dangerous? The tricks that were groundbreaking and deemed insanity a few years ago, you now see 13 year olds doing at the local hill. Skiing has progressed so fast and so quickly, I find it really hard to believe that it will continue to do so at this rate.

There is still a lot of room in right side tricks and unnatural tricks for growth, but I think skiing is starting to get to the point where if it keeps expanding in amplitude, more serious injuries will occur than what already has been happening. With that being said, there will always be those who go out and push the limits no matter how big the consequences, I just don' think there will be a field of athletes able to compete on that level, as you see in competition world now.
