Did shop fuck up my mount?

Yesterday I noticed my heel was ripped out of my ski a bit, I took it off today to check for water damage, and noticed a strange set of plugged holes.

Got these brand new, looks to me like they fucked up, didn’t even hear about it either. Also looks super close together but don’t know too well.

So they drilled the first set, realized they mounted them at the wrong place then Remounted right away and never mentioned it to you? Completely shit move and garbage shop.

who was it so members know to avoid that place at all cost?

Yeah that’s what it seems. Don’t wanna out them yet, imma see if they can make things right first. Could just be a newbie tech who didn’t wanna get shit on or in trouble.

i was partly more worried about the distance and if water damage is apparent

Unless they’re going to give you new skis there really is no excuse or other avenue that would make things right in my opinion.

If it’s a new tech that lied, Even more reason to avoid that shop. Clearly they are not vetting the people they are hiring then if stuff like this is happening to products.

I would think water damage would be harder to tell if you’ve recently had them mounted. The other plugs if done right should have kept water out of the core.

but depending on how much your second mount was pulling out before you noticed could have introduced some moisture.

did the second mount actually pull all the way out? Or just started coming out when you noticed? You mentioned removing them so I assume not a full heel pull?

would think that would keep you semi safe from moisture in the core from the second set of holes.
 
They should've let you know they mis-mounted. You could argue for a new set of planks, but I'd go back to the shop and ask them to explain the plugged holes. Distance wise the holes are fine though and doesn't affect the skis performance what-so-ever. Often times a mismounted ski will void warranty if drilled more than once.

I got over 100 days on them, so even though it’d be sick, I don’t know how likely they’d do a new set of skis for me. I definitely think some compensation cause of loss of value.

I took a few gnarley crashes with them this year, I had to unscrew the front set of screws but the back ones came out with nothing.

Going to another shop that’s has always done me right, so I’ll see what they say about core damage.

Honestly shouldn’t matter if you have a full year on them. If you brought them a new ski with zero holes, and they gave you back a ski with double the holes it should have plus plugs and didn’t tell you. They owe you new Skies. Period. They’ve reduced the life of the ski by reducing how many times it could be remounted. May have taken away your chance to resell etc and possible water/core issues. Not to mention the heel coming right out etc. just a piss poor job.

100 days skiing with loose heel screws may have introduced water. How much may be the question now.

OP I like your approach of asking them what happened first, but if they wanna give you some BS about it definitely politely but firmly ask for a refund. Techs make mistakes but the first thing the shop should have done is contact you about it and ask you what you’d like to do. I’ve made this mistake exactly 2 times and my first course of action is always to talk to the boss and let him know so that he can contact the owner and see what they want to do. Some people don’t care and just ask for us to mount the ski anyway, some are less flexible. Ask your shop what happened and see what they have to say, but it definitely is fucked up that they didn’t at the very least contact you.
 
They should have contacted you. Holes should be redrilled 1cm from centre to centre. This affects where you could remount but realistically you could just heli coil in the plugged holes.
 
put some marine epoxy in the holes and put the binding back on. When it's time for new skis go to the same shop, let them know you notices they screwed up the last mount, and let them enjoy getting that binding off to put on your new ski.

side note, I also saw the plastic on the pivots was snapped off a bit, shouldn’t mess with it right? This was the side where the heel came off.

But I see you are using pivots. I have about 40 days on my on3ps with pivots, and I noticed the screws on the heel are slightly loose. I asked my ski tech and he said just tighten them, pivots tend to loosen over time. Could just be my ignorance but I’m was a bit surprised to hear that, is he correct?

My previous pair of ON3Ps had pivots and the heels ripped out, I never checked the screws.

If that ski tech was correct, did OP every check to tighten his pivots?

(edit: did a little google, seems like ski tech was correct, pivots tend to loosen over time. RIP my old ON3Ps, shoulda checked the screws)

Haven’t heard that before but good to know. They were definitely stripped and not able to be screwed in when I checked.

also a lil update the shop wants to “make things right” and gonna see the owner Thursday

My old pair was "stripped" when they pulled out. My guess was they slowly loosened until water got in which made them strip. If I had to guess, same thing happened to you. Lowkey got lucky cuz now you might get a free pair of skis after urs striped due to "negligence" (ie shitty pivot design).

They ripped out either bc they didn’t glue properly or bc the way the core strip landed on when ON3P cut the base out.

However, based on ON3Ps dank track record I’d say the shop definitely fucked up. Go get a new pairs skis from them of whatever you paid for that pair plus the mount cost.

I'm surprised this wasn't comment #1. Op those holes are too close together. Ffs that's not even half a cm. Not only did they drill twice without telling you but they did it so close together your mount came loose. Did you get hurt? Their mistake coulda got you fucked up

Luckily I’m good, noticed it while waxing my skis. One nose butter from donezo.

now I’m looking at new skis, how likely are they to order direct from ON3P? They have 110 jeffereys in stock, and also intrigued by the woodsman’s, seem similar to my bibbys though.
