Did I mount my skis in the wrong place?

So I bought a pair of faction prodigy 2s and at the time I thought I was supposed to mount them progressive especially since faction recommends that. I was like oh, well faction knows it’s a park/all mountain ski so I mounted it progressive. I recently saw a vid and it said all park skiers use true center. I am probably going to ride 50%park 50% all mountain and a bit of pow because I ski at big mountains. Did I mount it in the wrong place? and btw I am new to park skiing so will it be harder for me to learn switch if it’s mounted this way?

next time post this is ski gabber forum or gear. No you didn't mount wrong. True center is more geared toward park specific riding more specifically rails. If you're going to take your skis all over the mountain than mounting rear of center is recommended. I believe the progressive mount is -7 of center which imo is a bit far back for park because its going to put you in the back seat, I probably would've gone -3 or -2.5. But -7 is going to be good all over the mountain.

-7 won't affect your switch riding it may just feel a bit awkward at first. Same with rails and jumps, it isnt a huge deal, it's just going to take some getting used to. maybe look into finding a cheap pair of park skis to learn on and keep the factions for the rest of the mountain.

Theres trade offs to both mounting points. center isnt going to ski the best or put you in the right stance for powder and -7 is gonna put you more backseat for jumps and rails. -3 or -2.5 is a good compromise. But I wouldn't bother remounting, like I said I'd personally try to find a cheap pair of park skis or something on FB marketplace or in the BST tab. learn on those so you dont care if you beat them up on rails and shit and keep your new pair for all mountain.

I mounted mine at progressive and hated it. The shop said "it's pretty far forward." -7 is not. I now mount my skis at -3 to -1.

I cannot afford even a cheap pair of skis because I spent all my money. Do you think it’s skiable to learn and destroy my factions? Especially on rails and jumps for a beginner? Then get a new pair of park skis and mount more towards center. Also when you say backseat do you mean like when you land it will put me backseat? And why? Is it cause I have to have the rail under my feet?

Remount. It's not that much.

You're going to be in the backseat because your weight is going to be closer to the back of the ski. You'll notice it most when learning rails and shit. Ideally you want the rail directly underfoot but because your weight will be closer to the rear of the ski you may find yourself falling off early or having trouble balancing. I don't think it's impossible to learn on nor do I think you completely fucked yourself with he mount. I just think you may have to work a little harder to get your balance right in the park.

That's a subjective question. There's as many mounting points as you want. Faction has 3 different recommendations. Classic, progressive and newschoolers. Then you could also mount true center

How many mount points are there on that ski?

I mean marked jackass. Thanks for clarifying though.

No way progressive is 7 cm behind center on the prodigy??? That must be classic, with progressive at -5ish and Newschool at like -3?

Yeah I don't think faction marks other than rec. But they have a few different mounting points on their website

I'm surprised. Thanks for posting that.

All three of those spots should be moved up 3cm. -8.5 is like blizzard Brahma/volkl kendo territory, asinine for a freestyle ski.

Yeah I agree. I think -2/2.5 is a solid mount for freestyle and all mountain.

no shame at all in remounting. i would do that 100%. i would for sure move the bindings up to at least -3 from center. i wouldn’t go full center mount. i think -2 should be what you do if you really will mostly focus on park. they will still ski totally fine everywhere els.

i don’t understand why all these mainstream ski brands are allergic to telling people what the actual mount point is. I simply won’t buy a ski if i don’t know how far back the rec line is. absolutely insane that i need to go to 3rd party reviews to tell me vital and very basic info about a ski.

True but its really easy to measure yourself

bro what???? i’m always buying online. it’s extremely rare a ski shop near me is selling a ski i want (midwest). i can’t get hands on anything i’m looking at to measure myself

They might be talking about when you have the skis in hand? Always good to measure and mark a nice crisp line on masking tape with a little note indicating boot center at the line for any shop mount. Don't take chances.
