Both are badass amazing shows which of the two do you prefer? I prefer Breaking Bad but it is a hard decision.

Dex.

Simply because of this man:

It's hard to compare, the 2 are definitely my 2 favorite shows but they're both so different, shot very differently, edited differently, soundtrack choices are much different but at the end of the day Id have to say Dexter for the sole reason I find myself watching old episodes of dex more often than BB

weeds sucked after the 3/4th season...yes yes i know it 'recently' got better but you cant consider a show great it you have to qualify it like that- a block of a few bad seasons takes away a lot from a series

breaking bad can be so dull for so long before it gets good. dexter is pretty good but just not all that great imo for many reasons.

game of thrones has never been anything less than amazing through every second of every episode

Dexter. But they're both really good.

Weeds has completely sucked for a few seasons now, and was never as good as either.

Never seen breaking bad, seems like i should check it out. Dexter is pretty freaking entertaining though.

Damn I'm a total tard, thought you were talking about Dexter's Laboratory. But I prefer Breaking Bad simply because I haven't watched Dexter yet.

I watch all episodes of dexter, nos watching breaking bad which is quite hilarious ! But I prefer Dexter, it seems more eventful.

i dont watch a lot of shows but i love breaking bad.. really the only tv series that i've kept up with

why did they have to kill him, i personally would be fine if they just said he survived the explosion and somehow they forgot about him being the supposed bay harbour butcher

best scene in all of dexter has to be the i own you scence with doakes

dexter in its prime was a great show, but you cant deny that its fading fast. the last two seasons kidna struggled. its gonna get the axe soon. breaking bad has yet to have a bad season. it is a planned out show, one that the creators have decided to end before it got bad. it has the best characters on tv, ranging from small characters like saul that are always hilarious to the supporters like gus and mike that are unbelievable to the big names. jesse and walt are the best characters on tv, and skylar has even been putting on the performance of her lifetime- shes annoying but a great character- breaking bad is arguablyone of the best shows on tv, but dexter is well past its prime. breaking bad hasnt even gotten to the best of it yet -accept that heisenberg is the king

+1 for dexter

Breaking Bad is more like.. hmmm how much more of a bad ass will Mr. White become today? I guess the only thing I don't really like about Breaking Bad is that Mr. White has no real inner struggle. The more I watch the show, the more I dislike him. But maybe that's one of it's best points. With every episode I despise him more but begin to like the other characters. I guess the same thing kinda happened with weeds. I want to punch nancy in the face, but I can't not watch it.

walter white has so much inner struggle- he is losing his family and his life in the process.. heisenberg has taken over the character of walter white- the meth cooking has consumed his life and he let his family go- in the next 8 episodes it will all pan out about how hesisenberg has destroyed walter's life

That's because you don't have the slightest clue as to what's going on in the show. Basically your response would be on par with someone saying that Donnie Darko was a failed sci-fi drama with random and nonsensical events just to see how weird they could get the movie.

Go read reviews/synopses from acclaimed critics. That'll help you to understand a bit as to why Dexter can't touch Breaking Bad... unless you enjoy not thinking while watching shows.

wow...you've missed a LOT of nuance if that's your analysis. Walter's character has completely and utterly transformed. His character arc has been a freight train since day one. At this point in the show, you're correct, he has very little "inner struggle", but his ruthless/egotistical sadism has been hard won and developed episode after episode. The Walter White that killed Mike and ordered the hit on the 9 is a very, very different Walter White than the guy who was panicking in tightywhities in the dessert.

On the other hand, Dexter is devoid of feeling and empathy (inherently free of internal struggle by his own admission) and has been the same character for 6 seasons. Outside of some of the larger season, half-season overarching stories, Dexter is two notches above a typical serial procedural in its "Dexter discovers murderous scumbag who outplayed the system and doles out his brand of justice" format. The show is formulaic, and has become totally stale and has officially jumped the shark.

The biggest difference between the two shows is that Breaking Bad is a specific story with a definitive 3 act structure and a premeditated conclusion (not unlike The Wire) whereas Dexter is a show about the exploits of a specific character. The character is an interesting and well fleshed out one to be sure, but there's no real building momentum to the show. It's our protagonist thrown into an arbitrary conflict that is ultimately resolved, and then the cycle starts anew with almost no connection between them. The brilliance of Breaking Bad is that it takes the mold laid out by Sopranos and takes it a step further. Both shows feature a protagonist guilty of atrocious behavior, and yet they're presented in such a way to be sympathetic. You never doubted who to "root" for in the Sopranos, however.BB has done the impossible and is truly unprecedented in that it has made a once sympathetic and justifiably malicious character and pushed him beyond redemption. The mere fact that Walter has become unlikable and that we the audience have come to understand that he is no longer a man in dire straights doing a criminal thing in order to provide, but rather a raging, megalomaniac with a superiority complex is incredible. You could look at BB as the traditional cop show told from the other perspective. Most shows like this would've had Hank as the protagonist, and it's like as the show wraps up, he's been the "main character" all along. I could go on and on, but I've ranted plenty.

I like Dexter, have seen every episode, but man...even trying to be objective and taking into consideration literary merit, acting, filming, editing, and on and on, BB mops the floor with Dexter.

The only shows that have been on air that are as good or better than Breaking Bad have been The Wire and The Sopranos.
