Denver??

How many of you live in or near Denver and like living there? Thinking of moving from NYC and was wondering how it is? How expensive is rent and how hard is it to find a job? Either in the restaurant industry or teaching yoga?? Is there ethnic diversity? How far are the local mountains? Thanks!!!

Hiya. my family lives in denver as do all of my friends, but i havent actually spent more than a month there. i do, however, know that the mountains are anywhere from an hour away (winter park) to a couple of hours away like vail, breck, copper ect. all in all, the night life in denver is great, but the lack of public transportation ( like most of the US anyway) calls for a DD all the time because the driving can be hectic and taxis are not as easy to get as they are in NYC. the prices of rented flats are anywhere from 350 usd to 700 usd. 700 being a very nice single in the center of town. like any other city, the views and the neighborhoods change. there are lots of nice areas tho and central denver (the "financial district" if you want to call it that) is comparable to that of some ritzy central locations in NYC. but much cleaner and you can see the mountains as well.

personally i think denver is a great city. i currently live in london and id say denver is much nicer and cleaner although i do like the london nightlife more so as well as the diversity. the diversity of denver isnt all that great. theres loads of mexican americans and TONS of middle class white people. compared to nyc or london, per capita very few people from overseas live in denver. other than that, i know its very easy to get a job in the restraunt business (at least within the chain restraunts... obviously the classier restraunts are harder to work for, but not as hard as it is in nyc) but it would be difficult to actually teach yoga because of the large contingent of crunchy people in the area. that obviously depends on your experience and so forth.

well there you have my two cents. good luck!

well, since rent was covered. Denver's night life is a bit dull unless you have found a good group of people to hangout with throughout the week. You'll learn the schedules of which clubs to go to when depending on your age like 18+ is Thursday at Rise or Vinyl, friday at the church or bash, sat. at the Bash, and then sunday at Rise.... so on and so on.... if you are 21+ there are loads of bars to go to in the denver metro area. In terms of day time activities there is skiing in the winter of course (you will get used to driving great lengths to get to where you want) kayaking, climbing, rafting, hiking, and any indoor recreational actiivites are within 30 minutes. Now I hope you have a car because it will be reather difficult to get to ski resorts without one and many places in denver unless you want to use the RTD (local bus and light rail transportation). RTD does not go to all the resorts but it does reach Eldora and I think that's it. Other than that its a fabulous place to live and I LOVE IT! There are great places in downtown denver that a lot of people don't know about and they are usually pretty laid back and friendly places and people. Hope that helps!!

denver is a really great city- recently ranked as the best city (denver/boulder) for singles in america. its got a great nightlife ( even if you are only 18 like he said) and even better if youre 21.

its got good transportation if you live south of denver. the lightrail is very dependable and easy. other than that, a car is a must for mountain action.

pm if you got questions

oh sorry, i live in incorporated Littleton (aka Jefferson county) c-470 and ken-Caryl Ave. About 20-30 minutes from denver depending on how fast you drive.

I have been living in Denver for almost 2 years and I like it alot. I just moved downtown right on the 16th st mall. We have a pretty nice place and pay $1300 for a 2 bed 2 bath condo but you can find other places for less. The nightlife is good. It definitely helps to have a good group of friends but its not hard to meet cool party kids. I DJ as well and spin at Lotus and Martini ranch but was also working for Vinyl/The Church.

I'm moving to denver in 3 weeks i'll be there the 11th. if you looking for a place to live give me and email. I have a nice townhome about 5 minutes from lodo in parkhill. I have pictures and stuff if your interested.

i'll be moving there from northern colorado when my lease is up.

frankdidge what name do you dj under? i play at a club called kazmos (dj strode) about once a month on fridays, good drum&bass there.

but denver's cool, the nightlife is hoppin if you're used to a smaller place, it might be a little dull compared to NYC, but what isn't?

nichole when are you usually at church/vinyl? i bet i've seen you there. didn't think any of the skiers on this site ever went to those clubs though.

oh and i have a few friends who just moved to thornton, two of them off 120th, and two of them off 88th, and i think they're all paying about $800/mo for one- or two-BR condos.

if you want to be closer to the mountains lakewood and arvada are your best bets, they're the furthest west.

LOL, if you want to be close to the moutains, why wouldn't you just move into the mountains.... damn it kids!!! I thought you would have figured this out already!!

Just joshing.
