Am I wrong for thinking that anyone who is actively signing up to comps and practicing for their first comp is a comp skier?

idk just been signing up to freeride comps at least 6-8 comps a year and always get waitlisted been on that grind since 2019.

As you can see Im ‘bout that thug life on gang na mean

only the realest ogs like my are capable of “competition skiing”

a comp skier is anyone who participates in comps. if you compete every once in a while i wouldn't consider you one.

If you have a dedicated coach and all your goals revolve around competitions or ticking boxes for judges then you're a comp skier.

If your name rhymes with ick yepper, you might be a comp jock.

*not anymore and honestly his self-aware ig posts are pretty funny.

comp skier and comp jock are 2 different things. you can totally be a ‘core’ skier hitting urban, park, backcountry and still compete and be a comp skier. comp jock, to me, is someone who’s sole focus is winning events and training to do that. at times you will see one of these guys and they are very serious and get furious about not landing a new trick or just unpleasant to be around while skiing. they are the ones i would attribute the negative stereotypes to. there totally are dedicated comp skiers that are super chill as well tho.

came here to comment something similar. The "comp skiers have no style" argument is so dumb. Henrik and Alex Hall have unique styles and they actually film outside of comps. Not to be confused with Eileen Gu, who is a comp jock.

That sums it up pretty well.

True true. Nothing wrong with comp skiing. I love freeride comps and all the folks I've met through freeride have been chillers
