Deer Valley lifties

I have a few questions for any deer valley employees, if there are any on here! Im moving to utah in a few months and got offered a job there, but I have a few questions on their drug policy...

thanks guys

I was in ski school. I was never drug tested, but I'm a pretty straight edge guy who they wouldn't suspect, and I really am not into any drugs. I'm sure if your superviser suspected anything they would test you. Or maybe it's different for lifties, they might just test you.

I have no doubt that they would definitely throw you out if you failed a test though. They are picky to the point where one of my friends shaved the night before instead of the same day and they were on his case giving him his one warning before they screw him over.

Due to working with the mechanical sides of lift operations all resorts are more strict when it comes to being a liftie. It's some insurance/liability thing that doesnt concern the instructors

If your worried about a drug test go to alta or brighton, I know alta has a paper you sign that says THEY wont drug test you haha

Altas form doesnt say they wont test you it basically says Dont get mad at us when if we confront you about your drug problem. They will drug test you if you make a claim for workmans comp.

Same difference I guess. Ive never heard of an Alta employee getting drug tested anyway. Even in the case of workmans comp.

working at one of the retail stores. met the owner the other day for an interview, he also owns a white water rafting company in upstate NY. dude was so cool, im stoked!

hmm a little late to this thread I guess... but I was a liftie at DV last winter. If anyone else has questions shoot me a message. It's a legit gig.

Good luck. My roomates work in that shop. I hear alot of mixed reviews. Im a lifty up there. All the people who work there are real cool. The boss man (duncan) is a dick. He doesnt like to hook up the people who work on the mountain. Also is a complete beater. Wears his beacon out side of all his clothes every single day of the year. But Alta is the shit so you cant complain.

practice getting on your knees and smile and eye contact.

large loads of deep discounts are sure to happen

That shop sucks ++ vibes for U

Im trying to go into this with a positive attitude. so maybe you guys think the shops sucks, but i met a lot of my coworkers already and they all seemed really nice and down to earth. I just graduated college, im not looking for the best job in the world, just something to get me some skiing related perks, money, and the ability to just fucking ski.

everyone thinks they're entitled in that canyon.

go to the ASS if you need a discount, there are plenty of hook ups for alta employees.

and to the OP, good job on not being a liftie, at least you're starting higher up the food chain.

Is that you John Duncan? The ASS is the equivalent of krill on the Alta food chain and everyone else is filter feeder, well i guess there are a few cod in there.

No you are very wrong. The ass is the lowest on the food chain. Lifties and patrol are the only ones getting pre public laps and in my opinion we are all powder carnivores.

damn you guys are mighty proud. its just a job to me, i dont give a shit about the high school like social structure of the mountain.

i'm an instructor there! lets ski sometime!

and to sartron, working at a ski shop is what you make of it. i work at one right now and while there are always things that could be better, it's a pretty great job for a ski bum. enjoy it!

any ksl links? I'd like to read more about it but heard its true as well. Going to be weird since at least 50% of my co-workers/friends were foreign. o Well

Negative. I can confirm for sure that DV and PCMR aren't renewing foreign visas any more. Some of my buddies from last winter were Aussies and South Americans and they were notified back in June. It definitely takes away from the traditional vibe of the resort in the winter, but at the same time it opens up some pretty nice gigs in patrol, ski school, etc if you've put a little bit of time in.
