Fish like these amaze me, how they emit their own light and are even see through is astonishing. What. is. life.

When I saw this thread I automatically thought of the fish in finding nemo, the big fella.

And who the fuck is anyone to say there can't be huge-ass sea monsters? Have you swam the length of that Mariana Trench? No, so fuck you and the skis you rode in on

you have to remember that animals need to eat, they need a certain amount of space, and they dont get huge for the sake of being huge. Such huge sea monsters wouldn't work. There's no reason to get that big. There's no advantage to being 500 feet long vs. 100 feet long. The disadvantages far outweigh it. In conclusion, not a chance in hell.

My grandparents have a camp on lake skaneatalas, one of the finger lakes in New York. It's only a mile across and 16 miles long, but is over 350 ft deep. Doesn't seem very deep compared to this shit but if you're tubing or waterskiing in middle and you fall, you start to think about things and freak shit lol.

Pics of lake for reference, also the #2 cleanest lake in US, top 10 in the world, awesome place.

I've been to a lake like this before, jumped in at one point where it was around 310+ feet. Looked down, started to think about things like OP posted, flipped a shit, and got back on the boat.

there isn't a lot of food down there, mostly plankton biomass. i'd be surprised if something large lived at the bottom

i'm pretty afraid of swimming where i can't see the bottom. almost anything that isn't a pool puts me on edge...

Looks like some sort of baleen whale to me. They'd show a picture of the whole thing if it was something new, or at least a picture that didn't look like a rotting whale.

Whales are the biggest mammals on the planet and what do they eat...?

Plankton.

What could you find down there?

Plankton.

He's making that face for a reason you know!

Dude no offense but you are dead wrong.

The density of the water increases immensely as you go down in the ocean, near the bottom the pressure is so great that the creatures need a very high bone density and muscle density. Their overall size grows in proportion to this required density. Trust me, i'm a scientist...soon

this thread delivers! but why is everyone afraid of swimming in super deep water? you jump off a dock or boat and cant touch the bottom, so what does an extra 4 miles beneath you mean?

You guys should all watch the Blue Planet: Deep Ocean. It's really fucking cool, and (sort of) answers a lot of the questions in this thread.

I am convinced there are huge things living down there. We have never found one because they most likley blend in and we dont spend much time down there. theyre bodies never wash up because they are too large to be moved by currents. spooky shit.
