I love the deep ocean. I get chills from those documentaries about stuff like this. I still have a bit of that little kid wonderment left

I still believe in that shit. The ocean is fucking huge there is still a very real possibility of big ass monsters that live way down there

Seconded, only around 10% of the ocean has been mapped. Im just hoping the megalodon is still in existence

Not just the megalodon, think about it, compare the amount of deep deep ocean we have seen by going down in a little submarine once in a while to the whole thing. The chance of seeing a fucking sea monster is soooo slim but that just means there's more of a chance that they do exist. At least in my mind

idk if krakens are real haha but these defiantly are... the top one is an anglerfish and the bottom is a giant squid. lives in the deepest of the deep. and i like to believe that there is a lochness monster out there... somewhere...

It's the DEEP sea... Places where it would be deep enough for these type of creatures to live are 100's if not 1000's of miles away from coasts and not to mention in trenches.

i love thinking about this kind of stuff. that mariana trench picture is mind boggling though, so many possibilities of what could be down there. it also says there could be deeper parts we don't know about which is pretty cool

really?

You guys think these big monster things live 20,000 feet down in the ocean where the pressure is a mind boggling 16,000 psi?

.....really?

when i was out on the pacific, not seeing land for a couple weeks at a time, whenever i pissed over the edge, i thought of the distance to the bottom, and all that water between the surface and the bottom. then i thought about that part in jaws where the shark comes up from the depths out of no where while the police chief is throwing chum overboard. then i'd finish off my piss as quickly as possible and go back into the wheel house.

You do know that even at Challenger's Deep (16,000 psi) life was found, right?

We don't really believe such monsters are living at the bottom but we can't be sure and thats were the phobia comes from, most arts were exaggerated but I think this one is quite realist.

After watching many documentaries on real giant squids, you have to accept the fact that they might be bigger ones we have not seen yet, not necessarily at the bottom of the ocean.

yeah some tiny ass weird fish..not the megaldon or whatever the hell the kids were talking about in the beginning of this thread

these big ass squids were found like 3000 feet deep..but when you start to talk about the part of the ocean where only 10% is mapped people start to think there are these mythical creatures down there...they dont realize how impossible it would be for something substantial to be living down there because of the amazing amounts of pressure

If those tiny ass weird fish were able to adapt and live with such pressure, why wouldn't a larger specimen adapt too?

Marine biologists believe that these oarfish can grow up to 60 feet long and live in geothermal cracks at the bottom of the ocean

I love thinking about this sort of stuff, but the possibility of something LARGE living down there is very VERY slim just based on the amount of sustenance such a life form would require. If an area is scarcely populated with small organisms, a large one isn't going to be able to find enough to eat. Just my input.

Thanks to this thread I'll no longer be able to swim in water where I can't see the bottom haha.

I'm not particularly scared of deep water but when you scuba dive and are defending into 130 ft of water and can't see the bottom until you are 30 ft away that shit is fucking scary, you start to wonder what's down there, if this shit is real and what happens if something goes wrong. Still 2nd favorite sport.

this stuff is so cool. its amazing how much of the ocean we havent mapped and are totally clueless as to what might be there. if there is anything living down there it would be crazy how long it could go without us ever knowing about it. and if there isn't, well then shoot.the art is pretty crazy too

forgive my ignorance, but what documentary are we talking about here specifically? ahhaa and is there somewhere i can watch it online?
