Death Penalty?

So, Kenny Richey is a British dude who's been sitting on death row for 18 years. His conviction was overturned by an appeals court earlier this year which has just been over-ruled by the Supreme Court. I don't know many of the facts but it appears that in 1986 he started a fire in his girlfriends apartment to get revenge on her for cheating on him or something. Tragically this arsehole killed a little 2 year old girl, she would be the same age as me now if she was still alive.

Now, I'm not condoning what this guy did, he killed someone and deserved to be punished, but is it really right to execute him for it? Is it right to execute anybody for that matter? I can't claim to know a huge amount about the death penalty in the US but I find it hard to believe that the majority of American people still believe that it is the best way to deal with criminals. What justifications are there for still using the death penalty?
 
its kina like this dumb law...

i can go grab a gun, shoot someone and kill them. i get 25 years -life.

i can grab my car, run over someone and kill them. i get 2-6 years.

yet i still killed someone and shit. yet with a gun its planned somehow and with a car its an acident.

such bullshit if you ask me.
 
If it can be proven that someone committed a very severe crime, they should be removed from society permanently whether its by penalty of death or life imprisonment (whichever is the cheaper alternative (and yes, death row can be more expensive than life imprisonment)). I would want an outcome that creates the lest overall burden to society.
 
Executing a criminal is still murder, whether the state deems it legal or not. I propose an alternative. My Grandma and I were talking the other day, and she was telling me how back in the day criminals were caned. I think for certain crimes, like murder, the one guilty should be flogged. There would have to be standards however, to ensure the criminals weren't beaten to death. I think a good lashing would make a criminal think twice before committing a crime again, at least better than sitting in jail does.

I also feel that sex offenders should be castrated. It would act as a deterrent as well as eliminate re-offenders.
 
on a side note, i read in the paper today that it is the 1000 person to be put to death my the united states. mozletoff!
 
I agree with Quinny. Personally, I am not against the death penalty. I feel like it should be allowed although it is sort of amoral. I dont disagree with it. If someone has done horrible things, they should be put to death for it. Murder is what im referring to, but it depends case to case.
 
100% agree death row is getting wayyyyy too humane and expensive not to mention the delay that happens and the time spent in court. The severity of the crime is a hufe issue though, because every case is different.
 
rapist's should b tourtured for the rest of their life and muders should hav life in prison, death penalty is to easy of a punushment
 
Fuck now that I think of it we could MAKE money off of death penalties. I mean we could sell tickets to these things! Who wouldn't want to see the 4th of july coming from some guys head? Damn, now all we need is some privatized business to snatch this open market!
 
I think the delay may be a good thing. I don't think we should be too hasty to execute someone. That will increase the chance for error (that is, executing an innocent man).
 
if i murderd someone i would rather get the death penalty then spend the rest of my life being locked up. and in jail you lose your pride, recieving a large black mans dick up your ass, damn, i would rather die anyday.

i agree we spend too much money on people sitting waiting to die/on people who are sitting in prison, especially w. prisons over crowding now

It really is a deterrent. 99% of all criminals up for the death penalty plead for life in prison. So between the choice of the death penalty or life in prison almost everyone chooses life. People want to stay alive.
 
they just choose that because they have a chance of getting out before they serve the full sentence. given that tho,its not always that reason.

slow your role big guy. A) im probably older then you, and B) i've had more friends in the pen they you have altogether. so C dont be such a fuckin idiot. D I would dick slap your mouth so hard it would make mike tysons punch a hug. This brings me to E) your simply a squid.
 
i've never been in prison cuz im not a dumb nig like yourself and i don't get caught. i had to spend 7 days, not saying that is intense cuz it sure wasnt. but i have been behind the bars and no one gives a fuck who you are.
 
I think the problem is that prison these days is just too piss easy. I don't give a crap about all the racist mumbo-jumbo that conkerheadcrew, or whatever his name is, is spouting about getting raped...prison isn't much different to boarding school these days.

The French had it right until everyone got all high and mighty about human rights. Until not too long ago, if you were found guilty of a serious crime you were left to fester in a 6x6 pitch black "cell" with nothing but a mattress on the floor and a hole to piss/shit in. Now obviously there is the school of thought that this kind of treatment would never lead to rehabilitation, the lonliness, squalour, and eternal black would just turn a fruit-loop into a complete mental nutter, but at least it would be a bigger deterrant, and it's dirt cheap too.

In my view the death penalty is wrong because I can't see that killing someone for killing someone isn't anything but hypocritical. But then again a prison sentence is too light for someone guilty of 1st degree murder. The cheapest way to deal with them would be to revert back to the french system (mentioned above) but in our wonderfully PC world today this would never be allowed.
