[/b]Dear Newschoolers,

Over

the past year or so I've noticed something exquisite in my eyes about

the world of free skiing. Newschoolers has always been my way of passing

time, a way to get away. Since the first day of watching ski videos a

some 5 years ago, skiing was bogus. Videos of skiers who quite frankly

thought they were straight up thugs. And yes, I had my phase of that too

in the ski life. Seeing professional skiers throwing signs and gestures

at the camera just to be seen as the best. Now hate is a word my father

always scolded me about for using as a child, and I am grateful he did,

because I do not hate anything.

I love the "NEW" Newschoolers,

the transformed site that it has really turned into, or even skiing

itself. Edits, short movies, and films have turned skiing into a

perspective instead of statement. A way to express your vision of skiing

and capture it through a 21st century object, a video camera. An edit

is able to convey so much meaning. If a video is able to make my insides

crave for the vibe amplified from the edit, then that is something no

team sport will ever be capable of. This realization I had about skiing

and Newschoolers itself came in perfect timing. For an English class, my

professor assigned an essay that we were able to choose any topic that

was seen culturally in our minds. So I wrote this. And newschoolers,

thanks cause you guys and everyone in the ski community is headed in one

awesome direction.

Peace and love,

Brian Teed

I read your essay and you seem like a pretty philosophical dude, and it's always good to see somebody so stoked on skiing.

Now about your original post ^. I guess I don't really know what you're saying.

Skiers used to act like thugs, but they didn't honestly think they were thugs. It was entertaining and cool at the time. I wouldn't call it bogus in any way. I still think that video of Travis Heed in "Wicked" is awesome. I still watch that video all the time. Or old videos of Mick D and Ninthward, etc. That was some straight up steeze.

The new NS? What's so new about NS? Seems the same to me, except that it sometimes gets redesigned and there are always new members.

"Edits, short movies, and films have turned skiing into a perspective instead of statement." So you mean that ski videos now have more depth to them? More of a point of view? And before they were just made to show off tricks? Not sure I agree. Just the teaser for T-Hall's '06 movie "Show and Prove" shows that it really has some real, good stuff in it. It's been awhile since I've seen that movie, but I always thought the trailer was pretty powerful.

I don't know, this is just my 2 cents on this post. Not trying to bash you or anything, I'm just kind of confused as to what you're talking about.

Thanks for the input, this feedback

defiantly made me rethink what I really said in that message to newschoolers.

That message I did end up send to newschoolers facebook page but it was more of

an introduction to why I was sending my essay to them.

When I was speaking of skiers thinking they were thugs I never meant it saying

I disagreed with it haha I even said I had my own phase of it. The point that I

was trying to get out of that small message to newschoolers was that from my

own experience those skiers that acted in those ways years ago got pulled into

the minds of skiers looking up to them. Just as everyone thinks celebrities in

our world are just oh so cool.... people listen to them. In my own experience I

got into park skiing before the generation of all the little shreders who's

parents buy them new gear every year. Likewise I used to feel at my home

mountain that the superior skiers in the park thought they were the best. When

I used the term thug I think to literal thugs on the street. They do whatever

"thuggies" do on the street. I see a thug as someone who walks with a

stride of superiority over others. So maybe the old videos put a vision in the

young minds that they wanted to live up to what these pros had. And maybe the

old ways made them only want to be the best. And this leads up to the

"new" newschoolers.

When writing the new newschoolers, I did mean the change in the site, but not

the literal way the site is set up. Little things have changed on the site,

yes. I meant the content of the site is the way I saw the change. Which is what

lead my mind to the "Edits, short movies, and films have turned skiing

into a perspective instead of a statement". Thinking back to writing that,

maybe I should of just said edits. Because I feel as if I see more meaning in

the edits produced by the members. Seeing the way a crew lives their lives and

even their humor and love behind skiing is what I see now. And even the music

itself. I remember my friends and I would only edit to mostly rap. I feel like

I rarely hear that in edits now. I get a bigger sense of rhythm and melody of

songs put into edits. Maybe these "new" songs can show the rhythm of

that skiers way of riding. I get a feeling that many more skiers they are

trying to prove they are the best, only showing their own way of skiing is

simply different than everyone else.

Thanks for challenging my thoughts man!
