Deadbolt 15's or 18's?

Hey guys, im 6'1" 220 and a 60 park 40 all mountain skier. Im getting a new park setup for this year and i was wondering which binding i should get. There is a 10 dollar difference between the two, with the 18 being the more expensive, so which ones should i get? they will be mounted of some K2 Recoils.

The 18s will be nice if you need a DIN above 15.

Really, same bindings, different springs.

Unless you have legs of steel and hate ejecting out of your bindings, you wont need anything past 15. Im 6 foot 220 and im rocking a 9-10 din in the park and wouldnt go any higher personally. Different story for a powder ski however. Go for the 18 if the price is almost the same, but it wont really do much for you.

Truth on the pow ski statement. If I send a large air to firm snow and land on edge with anything less than 14 din the torque on the ski/binding creates the most spectacular pre-release. I ride my park skis at 11 with no issues, the extra width under foot makes all the difference in the world...

A little beef I have with the head/4frnt/tyrolia bindings is that the toe releases horizontally too easily sometimes, and before you assholes get on my case about having them set up right, I've had them tested and they're fine, it's just in strange situations like tip smacking the back of a wallride in a shifty, that edge impact that they sometimes release a bit easy. I far prefer the retention of a full metal fks toe to pretty much anything else on the market...

wow, sorry for that rant...

any difference in the weight? (i assume not as they would both be metal casing). If weight is no difference and price is only 10$ go with the 18. that way if you ever have an epic pow day or big trip you dont have to worry about pushing big dins and ejecting.

I heard a while ago that having the DIN setting closer than 1 of the max is bad...either for the binding components or the mechanics...any truth to this?

Well, I looked at backcountry.com and they're selling the 18s for ~$5 less than the 15s. Because of that, I would say go ahead and get the 18s.

Just remember, though, a higher DIN setting doesn't mean a larger penis. Make sure the forward pressure is dialed as well. Since the price difference is negligible between the two may as well get the 18.
