Day touring packs

Looking for a recommendation on a day/slackcountry pack. I currently have a Dakine heli pro 20. The bag itself is nice to ski with but I’m not keen on setup and a lack of a probe and shovel specific pocket. I tried on the Patagonia descensionist 32 today and it was nice but the fit wasn’t quite right. Does anyone have any other recommendations on a ~30 litre pack for shorter tours?

Thanks

I use a dakine poacher 14 but all I can fit in that would be a shovel and a probe and skins, daymakers and a snack or 2 but I think they make bigger ones.

I just got the evoc fr enduro. It has built in back protection. lots of pockets inside the pockets for easy organized storage. The waist strap is amazing. They make different sizes. I think I got the 14l and it fits day makers skins and a shovel in the helmet holder on the outside with room to spare. I have yet to use it because I recently lost all of my snow to rain. But it seems like a great pack and I am really excited about it.

Black diamond dawn patrol 25L has insulated camel pak, a frame carry, helmet carry, dedicated avie pocket, diagonal carry and dual ice pick straps.

I’m sure my dakine heli has a dedicated shovel and probe bit - or maybe I’ve only ever used the front but for that so it just feels dedicated - it’s easily the most comfortable and least unstable pack I’ve skied with

I have 2 generations of bca packs and love em. Good adjustability in the pack, and great quality, plus, you'll have the option to upgrade it and add the float cylinder in the future vs buying another pack if that's something you'd ever want.

BCA stash 30, and I've tried probably 20-25 different packs in the last ten or so years to really narrow it down haha.

The Gregory ones are pretty nice and underrated though.

The only issue with all dakine packs is the lack of any sort of dedicated helmet carry. Sure you can clip it to a random strap but I can't stand a dangling helmet on my back.

The new version does but not the iteration I have unfortunately. The front pouch where it is now is too short to contain a probe and shovel etc.

“I can’t stand a dangling helmet on my back” - genius

Sorry you don’t approve of my ski shop edumacation

? It was meant as a comment on the double entendre, probably just a British thing not coming across on the internet - wasn’t meant as a dig at you mate.
