David Wise's input on the X games and FIS clash

Downdays just covered his blog on his own website so i thought id share it with you all here. A pretty good read and very understanding that the x games atheletes are sticking with their roots as X games being bigger than world champs

heres the link to the readhttp://david-wise.com/?p=1068

The stupid antivirus software I have to download to get onto my school's internet won't let me see his site...

for those that cant read it. its basically FIS saying that we offically gave the dates of our comp before X games. They in fact did give there dates before but Winter X has always been the week before superbowl weekend and always has been. FIS basically thought that they would stick to there guns and figured that world champs would be more important than X games.... It back fired

David also felt that all the top pipe riders are infact at X and the winner of World Champs will not have beat the best in the world to claim such title

Yeah, fuck the FIS.

It's really good to see so many of the comp guys standing up to them. I had a feeling that skiers with funding from their governments sports programs (Woodsy for example) would be forced to go to the FIS because it's more 'Olympicsy', and international sport really is just a political dick-measuring contest. That hasn't been the case, which is fantastic.

Also here's who's competing in Austria, only a few names we'll actually miss from x-games (I don't recognise half the half-pipe competitors):

Why cant these fuckers just go back to fucking up racing/moguls/aerials and leave freeskiers/snowboarders alone? No one wants their douchey, painfully unfunny, corrupt hands in the sport.

This isn't even worth getting mad about. If anything it's worthy of a facepalm. They made their own event into a meaningless afterthought. There are some good skiers there, but it doesn't look like anything that should be called "world championships".

One could argue that a half-pipe event can't be called the 'world-championships' if either Torin or Wise are absent, just because they are so good the other guys pretty much can't touch them. Their rivalry is the only thing keeping pipe skiing slightly interesting, but it's still not as exciting the Tanner vs Dumont rivalry.

No. No one's missing. I don't look at that list and think, "damn, that guy just gave up a podium spot at Xgames."

I would argue that russ henshaw gave up a slopestyle spot at X games

holy shit thats going to be one slooowwww halfpipe event. the slopestyle still has like 4 riders i recognize but thats about it. looks like FIS fucked up this time, badly

Fuck fis

Any skier who went to world's over xgames lost so much respect in my books. I would never go if i was invited to both

I respect Henshaw's reasoning. In his blog post he basically said, "I've gotten hurt the past 3 years at X, its just not a good place for me to be injury wise."

I hope other big name skiers speak out and join his side. Got to stay true to your roots. DWise knows his ski history.

Pretty sure they joined his side when they all decided to go to X. Did FIS seriously think putting that event on the same weekend was a good idea? Why not deconflict by 2 weeks?

David Wise needs to stop spending so much time writing horrible explanations that no one cares about and throw the first triple in the pipe. This is exactly why people are increasing interest in slope style. Pipe riding has nothing to offer but excuses and reasons why its not progressing fast enough. But then again, how exciting can watching people riding a parabolic cylinder made of ice really be. Restricted creativity, choreographed runs, with a lacking of buttering, pretzels, and triples.
