Dalbello - what was last year's Lupo SP ID?

I tried on a pair of Dalbello Lupo SP I.D. boots over the weekend, and they were perfect except for one thing - the price. Skiing is an expensive sport. Saving a couple hundred bucks on boots will mean more ski days with my kids (or to spend on boot fitting). Price drops on last year's boots are significant, so today I took to the internet to see if I could figure out what Dalbello boot was last year's "Lupo SP ID", at at least would have a similar fit and performance rating. Easier said than done! It seems like theratings and measurements for each model vary from year to year...or from website to website, where the product descriptions aren't always consistent.

Is anyone familiar enough with the Dalbello product line to offer me some insight?

The Lupo is based on the Krypton 2 shell and so has a slightly more anatomical fit. If you can't find a Lupo to try on, find someone with a Krypton 2 and try it out. Should be much easier to find.

Nevermind. Must have read that wrong- OP if you're looking for something about the same that you may be able to get for a deal look into the Krypton2. It's just about the same boot except the Lupo has a walk mode.

Try to buy a kr2 fusion or pro from a previous year if it really is the correct fit, but try to buy it from a shop, as otherwise you have no fit guarantee and the cost of boot work could sink ya. Also hesitancy to spend money on boot work could make you not even want to ski with your kids. Plus you will generally get a break on the price of the custom footbed that you should be buying when you buy the boot fromthe same shop.

Thanks for the replies - very helpful. I tried on the 2014 Lupo SP and the 2014 KR2 Fusion, and found it to be basically the same fit.

Is anyone familiar with the Rampage? How is it different from the KR 2?

That's good advice. I've also been told that I should budget for boot fitting, and I know most good boot fitters will stand by their work whether you bought the boot from them or not.

So here's what I'm thinking: I had a really good boot fitter match me up with the Lupo SP ID in a 27.5, which felt great but breaks my budget. I'm figuiring I can take a chance on a closeout Dalbello KR 2 in the same size, and use the money I save to splurge on the boot fitting.

Is this a reasonable plan or am I deluding myself? :-)

Talk to the bootfitter that got you into the Lupo. Tell him your plan to get a kr2 to save money, and then if you need adjustments you'll come into them to get it done.

You won't be taking any chances on a closeout kr2. It's the exact same fit as a lupo. If you liked the ID in the lupo, get the ID in the krypton. It fits completely different(instep pressure with the non ID liner). So, if the lupo felt good, you'll be fine in the kr2.

Good luck, and hopefully you have happy feet!

I called Dalbello- they told me the the K2 Fusion is also the same shell/mold as the Lupo and Krypton. The difference between the two Fusion and the Lupo is the walk mode and tongue stiffness. So if you don't need the hike mode and you're looking to save some coin, go for the K2 Fusion.
