Daily Throwdown 14/15

Surprised the daily throwdown hasn't been made yet. Well, here it is for the 14/15 season. I'll start:

Hit a very mellow DFD near downtown minneapolis tonight. Didn't get any good clips because the rail was a pain in the ass to grease- it was 50 feet and I was going slow (3/50 tries). Tossed a front 2 out but lost my ski when I landed. Also my friend accidentally set shutter speed to 1/240 instead of 1/60 so clips are really dark, don't know how he messed up that bad. I can fix it but they'll look disgusting.

Now you describe your daily throwdown... Go!

Didn't have enough snow to hit the rail so we used an upside down trash barrel

wow, that photo kicks ass. surprised it didn't get more upvotes.

anyways, car in the shop, walked to a stairset with a chain on the top by my house and filmed myself doing a stupid ollie firecracker thing.

Had a fun time at troll today. The warm weather for the past few days meant the lips onto features were significantly smaller than before, and the cold from last night froze the place solid, but it was still a good time. Definitely took a lot of pop to get onto every feature though.

Today was day 7!! Holy moly its only november!!!

did a front 2 out kinda lol yay tricks #killinit

I was at buck today, didnt really feel it today but the jumps are looking fucking gnarly, totally going on friday. Seriously there absofuckinglutely gigantic ridiculousness.

tried front 6s off the up handrail at hyland after watching a friend get one perfectly on his first try. nearly screwed up my knee sending a front 4 to the flat slug style. at least back 4s came easy on the rail.

Went up to coffee mill today and ate shit pretty much every time I tried a trick. Did a bunch of criticals and safeties on this little jump thing. Also i got comfortable using my new skis. Going again tomorrow hopefully

I went to buck yesterday, the jumps were all perfect. I went for a little 3 because I couldn't quite land right to keep my speed, I overrated and went into a 5, landed so hard that my pants split. It looked cool because I took it to flat, but that was my fifth day on those saga pants. :(

Regarding Buck, saw an update on fb with a jump that looked decent. What's the story? They have a good jumpline now?

The guys from the windells park crew (destroy lab) came in to make the park, it has a great feel and flow to it, but the rails are still buck's rails. Third jump in the jump line is currently the best in the state in terms of size and shape. I'm really hoping that they are maintained well because the jumps really deteriorated towards the end of last season.

Went to Coffee Mill again today, hardly ate shit at all lol. Learned a few new things, also they had a down-tank with a little transfer thing over it and it's super fun. Idk how long it'll be there though.

in the trailer at hyland.

the trailer that didn't have working bathrooms yesterday. the trailer that doesn't have a drinking fountain (bottled water is $0.50, so if you don't have money you'll pass out), the trailer that has enough eating space for roughly 100 people, the trailer with gas station quality food...

This is going to be really interesting on presidents day weekend.

Finally got an ellen at hyland, I've had them on my backyard rail in a while but change ups at hyland sketch me out. Died trying an elusive just because of the ice, otherwise it would've been a mellow fall. At least I got my shifties to switch out of the up rail as good as I'll ever get them.

Just hit these today and did not have that impression. Super flat landings. Look big but really aren't nice. I don't think Buck is worth going to.

I've only heard that they were amazing on the first day, my friend was telling me that park crew was flattening the landings to make bad under/overshoots less frequent. Buck might as well put in welch village style jumps- a triangle to flat.

Hit giants ridge over the weekend, saw a kid who was REALLY good at riding switch. They had a fun box/rail line on Sarajevo with a new down-flat rail. There were maybe 2 other park skiers... but that made it more fun because people would cheer me on from the chair whenever I'd hit a rail.

Was at hyland last saturday. Leave it to them to blow it on re-using the DFD from the stairs. Not only is it set up for definite death, but they leave the donkey dick in WITH a fucking nob on the end of the donkey dick. So legit hyland

Fellow MN newschoolers,

Where in the cities area has the best setup right now? Specifically looking for where has the best jumps. Hyland/Afton?

I don't ever hit jumps at hyland, it's against my religion. Went to elm for the first time in my life and found myself trying a flatspin on one of their small jumps because it was shaped pretty well, tips caught on the deck, took the knuckle to the thigh and cried.

I don't know if troll is considered the cities (an hour away), but the setup is all time right now! Super flowy and soft despite the rain. Their facebook has pretty good pictures of everything. There is a jump in their smaller park that is about 20 and pretty poppy, and in their bigger park there is about a 30ft jump with a long steep landing.

buck hill?

tru i work there so i had to be there today, but no one showed up for a lesson. Even though the snow sucked there one jump that was open was pretty smooth.

finally got 2 pretz 2s down at elm, they feel amazing, kinda got a sketchy front swap pretz 4. literally nothing compared to the insanity that was getting thrown down today by others though.

has hyland completed there setup yet?

they had super and the majority of big park up for opening day. so I think that should mean yes? anyways, park crew took a lot of things out to make way for snowmaking- otherwise features can get buried. things should return to normal the weekend after next I'm assuming. such a crappy December so far, maybe it's just the law of averages getting us back for a good November.

I went to Cascade to try out their new tow rope and was sessioning their only feature out that isn't extremely sticky which is a giant propane tank. Stuck anyways and went straight to my back on flat ice. Now I feel like an 80 year old man who might have just given up on every Wisconsin hill other than Granite. #midwestskierproblems #thanksobama

I can confirm that it is icy as fuck as of Sunday.

very true. I guinea pigged the big line for my friend today. the big jumps are all great, landing on the first one felt a little flat. their new dfd bucks hard if you aren't ready. lips to the rails were icy and I almost died a couple times on the z-down rail because of it.

Coffee Mill's setup is really shitty right now. 2 extremely tiny rails (one of them nearly unhittable), a small jump, and a decent propane tank. Oh and some corrugated pipes that I never hit too lol. Finally got 3s down today, but I took a really hard slam to the hip and now there's a huge bruise there. Also they were making snow all over the place so there were mounds of snow that you could air off of. That was 10x better than the park honestly lol.

How is buck hill right now? I'm thinking about going up there for a day or two pretty soon

The jumps aren't as big after the melt age but i managed to throw easy steazy 7's off the last one could have easily taken it to 10 if I could actually spin a 10.

the rails are all really nice in the rail yard, the rails on the rope are not as fun as the lift but their still pretty good. also a decent lap able jump that you can throw and easy 5 off of.

At Giants Ridge, was lapping the garmisch (medium) park, was having trouble getting 2 ons to a flat bar and staying on the rail. A skier who rides there a lot told me to straddle the rail on the lip instead of doing urban on. got 2 continuing 2 that hit and a crown (2 on, swap, 2 out same way) the next hit. Stoked!

I find it easier (and it looks better imo) to 2 on from the side. You just gotta kinda land in a scissor

It's easier for me to do that on a tube/round rail, but a flat bar is different because you can't lock in as well.

Thanks dude

Decided to hit elm, got a private park, there wasn't any ice to speak of either. Only issue was that the rails were a little sticky. Lapped one of their jumps and had a good time, landing was really soft and there was a lot of air time for an elm jump.

got switch 2 ons at elm today. was only there for an hour and half or so because its was windier than all hell.
