How do you balance a baby and skiing?

I typically make a 3 hour trip weekly to ski, but I'm not able to make wild moves go with the flow and be wreckless anymore.

27m expecting a child at the end of the season, obviously didn't get my wife a season pass this year.

Just go, your wife will watch the kid. Worst case scenario she leaves you, which just opens up more time for skiing.

congrats

as Long as she’s able and prepared to deal with things alone while you shred there should be no obstacles , just set her up to have an easy time before you go , give her time to recover , a babysitter can sub as both nanny etc basically an assistant for not much money etc

and get them on the slopes ASAP ! At least the kid And you

Put it in a backpack and go. Or leave it in the car as long as its not hot it will be fine.

Comedy = tragedy + time

funny as this guys advice is , maybe not listen to someone who refers to the baby as “ it “

I say get the kid an ikon pass and go to Jackson for the week

Congrats man! I have a 2 (almost 3) year old and a 3 month old, both girls. If your Wife is comfortable you can prob take some turns this year while she is pregnant at least until closer to her due date. From then you will at least have the summer months to get used to the baby and figure out next season. If you are gone for 3 total hours you can probably manage it but really make sure she is cool with you doing that. If its a 3 hour drive then thats a different story. Having a new baby is all hands on deck and the last thing you want is for her to get stressed with something and have you up skiing and far away all day. Trust me, dont screw around on this or you will pay for it later.

In all honestly, dont push it or you will get in hot water quick and it will not be worth the stress on your relationship in the long run. Its pretty awesome to get your kids stoked on skiing early. My daughter loves watching ski movies and is always coming up to my lapptop and saying, "I want to watch skiing" or "I want to go skiing". Just remember too you have the rest of your life to ski and teach your kids to ski so if you have to scale back a season and only go once a month or so it will pay off not stressing your relationship.

When they are older you can get a toddler carrier and do some bunny hill laps which is pretty fun. Here is my daughter and I at Schweitzer just lapping the magic carpet:

I have studied this phenomenon for some time and came to the conclusion that most kids here are too young to have any real life advice to give or actual cool stories to share so they reply with snarky or rude comments to seem edgy or like they are too cool to bother with a real response.

I had to go to the mall the other day and actually saw a kid dressed in full on "Gender Neutral" gear with his(?) hair all shaved aside from this bun thing. I literally wanted to grab him and drag him out in the woods to build a fire and shoot guns or something. That and punch his Dad in the face for letting that shit happen assuming he even has one. I actually felt bad that this kid has to grow up in this kind of cultural cesspool.

Congrats! You will figure it out, the wife can watch the baby as you get away for a day. Just watch the baby for her so she can get a break once in a while too. Communicate, try and plan the trip instead of a drop of the hat ski day. Sitters help but cost money and finding the right one can be difficult. You will still ski, just might not get to hit every single day like before. Good luck.

Awesome pics of you and yours , as a dad of three , 15,10,6 , I think he can ski after she’s recovered from birth if she’s ok with it and they are educated and well prepared , during month 9 maybe no not best time , but months 7/8 , and two mo the after birth should be fine , husband and wife go out of their way for each other to live lives to their best this makes a powerful couple just don’t ask for more than you give

lol It would actually be hilarious if you put goggles on a doll and got a carrier and started hitting park jumps.

I actually had a patroller come up and explicitly tell me I was not allowed on a lift like that. I was mainly just skating around the village then did a few laps on the magic carpet.

Omg ideas.... cabbage patch dangling from lift , baby skis trees , there’s a lake at my local mountain , I could drop the doll “ overboard “ and I’ll b like I canny not swim ! Soon as someone jumps in I’m running ?

I'm honestly curious....why the fuck do you care so much about what someone else looks like?

The keyboard warrior/SJW talking shit are one thing but if its a kid just hanging out in the mall, why do you give such a shit what he looks like? If it really bothers you that much, just mind your own fucking business???

I can’t speak for the other guy

I too am sometimes guilty of assuming bc of looks , but also am willing to look past that and try not to be judge mental but people tend to be afraid of what they don’t understand and we live in a world where some weird terrible shit goes on and let’s face it , jocks and outstanding students, the Starbucks barista and the beauty queen aren’t typically “ the mass offenders “

me id of looked at the kid prob not thought twice but some people I’ve done this , know some kids like that who just needed a dad , needed to see how the world can b theirs ,some people r emo and own it , some it’s bc they r lost same with many other social afflictions

maybe they had nobody to show them , that other dude didn’t say anything harmful , he sounded parental less than judge mental

not like he said I wanna take him in the woods and shoot him ? he wanted to show him manly stuff and how not to be a vampire Idk

I am sick of an agenda being shoved down everyone's throat and young and impressionable kids and getting caught up in it and making permanent decisions like hormone therapy when they are too young to even understand what they are doing. They are shoving this trans/gender neutral agenda on everyone from the Bruce Jenner woman of the year BS to the new Mattel dolls and anyone that so much as speaks against it is threatened like when Mario Lopez got crucified for making a completely rational statement based on his own beliefs. People can dress however they want, I really dont care but when you have young people going along with a massive well coordinated media agenda without knowing what is going on then yes I have a problem with it.

For the record, no I would never go up and be an ass to a kid to make him feel bad about himself. I was stating I wanted to take him out and let him experience something real in his life by being out in nature doing some real stuff like making a campfire or learning to shoot a .22 so he has a solid foundation in life. So many kids these days literally grow up glued to a smartphone or tablet and live in this virtual reality hellhole and it makes them impressionable to whatever the media wants them to think because they have no frame of reference beyond that. Seeing that in real life for the first time legitimately hurt to see.

I know I probably came off as a dick in my post but its something I get heated about because children are being victimized by this and the media actively silences and suppresses anyone who tries to speak against it.

you must oblige or else you will have a racer on your hands

Instill a love for skiing in your child. Then taking them skiing = good parenting. Problem solved.

Until you watch them grow to shred harder than you ever did and look down in shame.

Thanks for the actual response. I think its important to have real conversations about this stuff and honestly, I totally get where you're coming from. I'm obviously extremely liberal but the 'pronoun' stuff has been hard for me to swallow for example.

I guess where we majorly disagree is that you seem to think the "liberal-media agenda" is a causation of this where in my opinion it is more of a correlation. We live in a time where it is simply more acceptable to be your true self and I think media has played an important role in breaking down gender-stereotypes. Some guys like dudes, some girls want to dress like men, some men want to chop their dicks off and grow boobs. To each their own. I dont think that "the media" caused this, but rather just shed more light on the fact that people are different and we should treat EVERYONE with respect no matter what they're into.

Chances are, that kid you saw in the mall has no desire to learn how to make a campfire or shoot guns. He wouldnt think it was fun or change up his lifestyle matter how much you did it. This is just YOUR opinion on what men should be into. If putting on makeup and dressing like a girl will make this person happier/more fulfilled in I think thats fucking great and we should support them regardless.

Sparknotes: Having a gay character in a TV show or releasing gender neutral dolls isnt "pushing an agenda" - its just fucking life.

Dude, without good parents around kids live their entire lives on social media. It's sad what percentage of them try to emulate every single thing they see on their stupid phone/tablet/watch/computer/refrigerator. I don't think you were denying that the "liberal media agenda" exists, nobody could, but when kids willingly submit their entire existence to this shit it really does push them to be stuff they are not for the clout. I hate the social media because of the hugely negative effect it has on kids and not because of "the damn liberals." But there is an incredible sway over kids from social media and to say that it isn't overwhelmingly far left would be ignorant.

Hope by the time I have kids, the whole social media has passed over and is replaced by something less influencial. Probably won't happen, but one can hope

Oh I agree with this 100% and I totally acknowledge that my own liberal opinions make me biased and slightly blinded here. That said, I truly do feel that leftist-ideals tend to be a bit more inclusive and open-minded. Something that IMO, we desperately need more of in this country.

And while it may sway their political leanings/interests/general personality - No amount of media consumption (whether it be actual social media or just TV/Netflix) is going to "turn" a kid in to a transsexual and that was the vibe I was getting from the original post.

I agree wholeheartedly on having a conversation on this. That is one of the biggest problems we face in the US political landscape where both sides refuse to just talk to one another and sit in their own respective echo chambers reinforcing their beliefs to the point where the other side is demonized.

I see where you are coming from and I think that is the fundamental difference in our beliefs here. I wont even go so far as to call it the "Liberal Media" as that is more associated with a political party but rather the influence of Hollywood and their hand in creating the culture of our country. For me, I see a very clear agenda with this trans movement and based on how it was rolled out from our consolidated media sources, I very much believe it was planned and not an organic cultural movement. As I mentioned earlier with Bruce Jenner, Miley Cyrus, Will Smith's kid being made to wear dresses, that TransAmerica show, the new "Rub & Tug" movie they are coming out with, there is a top down driven push to normalize and promote the breakdown of gender in our society. Thats not to mention Buzzfeed and other youtube influences pushing the same agenda. Gender Dysphoria has been treated as a mental illness for decades in every DSM Manual and only represents less than 1% of the population but is now being shoved in our face on a large scale.

The other issue here is the scary consolidation of media outlets that allow this type of agenda to push forward while silencing any dissent. Even YouTube has aggressively been pushing to demonetize and push out any independent content creators in favor of staged "Personalities". This creates a dangerous setting where kids are not able to be themselves or find other independent people to associate with. All they have are carefully curated personas that follow a specific template that their corporate owners want to portray.

The campfire was a hyperbolic example and the point was that kids need some kind of reality to have beyond this artificial world that has been created for them be that skiing, camping, hiking drawing or anything. That is actually why skiing is so important to me because it was my foundation away from the "Lets act like we are on OC" bullshit my Highschool was on. In that sense, I saw this kid and saw someone caught up in that same trap. Sure, if that is how he really wants to be then I 100% respect and support that but if he is just trying to fit a mold that has been specifically crafted and presented to him every time he turns on his tablet then we have a serious problem. For that matter, that is why I got so heated over the Sierra Quitiquit fiasco because its that same issue of a crafted image being pushed into the skiing culture.

I consider myself a Conservative and I do agree that the typical "Christian Conservative" Fox news variety has a fairly narrow mindset toward social issues to say the least. However, the foundation of true Conservatism in my mind is that we are to all be treated as equal individuals nomatter our race, creed, sexual orientation etc. At the end of the day, you are simply yourself and you should be valued as such. However, the current Liberal ideology has adopted this practice of desperately trying to shoehorn people into a group identity. This is why the LBGTCQ+ etc movement has so much infighting and crazy issues such as the recent Democratic town hall fiasco where the candidates were literally shouted down by the people in the crowd. Its because this ideology is forcing people into different buckets of identity and those sometimes conflict with each other. So instead of being an individual who is a girl but more into guy stuff etc, you have to be part of a "Non-Binary" or whatever letter corresponds most to who you are and your rights are based on that group and not you as an individual. As such, you are still conforming yourself to a group that may not represent who you are as simply an individual.

Anyway, that is my .02 on the situation.

Removed most of your post just to keep the thread clean.

I do see where you're coming from, I just think this is more of a 'cultural shift' than a 'deliberate agenda' to break down gender norms, which we'll just have to agree to disagree on.

Jaden Smith for example frequently talks about how thankful he is that his family supports him no matter how he chooses to act or dress. (There also have been tons of articles from the trans community talking about how much of a detriment Caitlin Jenner has actually been, as her life CERTAINLY does not represent that of the majority of transsexuals yet often serves as a figurehead for the community).

Additionally, I do think this "agenda" which I deem more of a "cultural movement", does greater good than harm. Even if only 1% struggle with Gender Dismorphia officially, that's still over 3 million Americans. On-top of that I'd consider this whole topic to be more of a "spectrum" than a black and white issue which is why I think that creating a dialog around these issues is so so important.

Just found this stat: "Among non-binary youth, 41.8 percent of respondents stated that they had attempted suicide at some point in their lives." Which is FUCKING CRAZY to me. If a kid is struggling with this issue who knows, maybe seeing a youtuber or netflix show or Jaden Smith in a dress will make them feel not so alienated and alone?

Because no one likes you, and most of you're posts don't contribute anything whatsoever. You're almost at 500 posts and still haven't broken 1000 karma. Pretty tragic if u ask me

No one is here for karma. K points are a reflection of what you contribute to the site, I'm simply inferring that you have little to no grasp on the concept of contribution, but yes keep sticking your head even further up your ass.

When my mum and her sibling were too young to ski their parents would just leave them in the day lodge and stop in to check on them every couple runs, gotta love the 60s

Comedy = tragedy + time

funny as this guys advice is , maybe not listen to someone who refers to the baby as “ it “

I say get the kid an ikon pass and go to Jackson for the week

tf is wrong with you? obviously hot cars are fine, the human body temperature is supposed to be like 98.5ºF! Hell, leave the car running, windows closed with the heat blasting, and have yourself a day shredding while your wife is none the wiser!

I have studied this phenomenon for some time and came to the conclusion that most kids here are too young to have any real life advice to give or actual cool stories to share so they reply with snarky or rude comments to seem edgy or like they are too cool to bother with a real response.

Probably cause this site is a ski forum and not a parenting forum. Do you trust the average skier you see on the mountain to watch your kid? I hope so because there's no way I can afford daycare OR child support! Maybe I'll have to break out the coat hanger myself again, because good ol conservatism banned having a medical professional do it with a vacuum.
