D7000

Hey kids,
So I searched the forums and there hasn't been a thread on this since it came out.
Anyone have any first hand experience with this camera?
It seems straight up amazing for the price - 1200 dollars for everything it offeres is obscene.
I was considering a D700 & D3s - of course there are the major pro/am differences and the CF cards but I think this would make a better backup camera than the D700 haha at a fraction of the cost.
I was wondering if someone has held this camera in their hands and felt if it was "well built" I tried to call a bunch of stores and no one has any.

specs ^
blows the shit out of my D200 haha...

No you know what nikon really needs to step up on, getting this camera out to the public. Im really starting to wonder if I will even have this by Christmas..

Doesnt even have 30p at 1080p or 60p at 720p. Do you know if it even has manual controls in video?

I am more interested in the photographic aspects. some guy is ordered 2 on amazon - I think I am going to pull the trigger and buy it for the 1500 with the 18-105...

I know you are a photographer, I was just mentioning that Nikon should step there video up to where Canon is.

Hmmm - yeah I don't know. I guess for the price - the images look really really good. I might do some little web videos for a company here and there, but whateves.
I'll write up a review if I end up getting it tomorrow.

when in the right hands it blows the d90 out of the water for video. The lack of more frame rates is a huge downfall to it though./static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

thats because the D7000 competes with the 60D, not the 7D

not counting video, D7000 >>>>>>>> 60D any day

the D7000 video is perfect in every way except for the lack of 720 60p

-best autofocus performance of any HDSLR

-full manual with shutter speed control (pretty much a first for Nikon except the D3s in tripod live view)

-no more shitty motion JPEG, now it uses h.264!

the D7000 is a great camera, but I want a D400 when that drops next year!! hype

See for the price I think its straight up amazing.
Blows my D200 out of the water, it competes with the D700 in terms of all image aspects (a little worse on ISO) but it's not FX. Which is totally cool because I love my 10.5 DX lens along with my 12-24mm f/4.

As for video I don't really get the who 60p 720 or 1080i stuff haha - I know if you hit the size down a bit it makes it look much better?
I don't know?

60p means 60 progressive frames a second, aka smooth slow motion

anything ending in "p" means progressive, which looks way better than interlaced frames

anything ending in "i" means interlaced, which is the shitty skate edit look with horizontal lines coming out of everything and an overall shitty look

so the Canon vs Nikon battle is people think Canon is better because all Canon HDSLRs besides the 5Dmkii have 60p, Nikon does not... but the D7000 has everything else and the best autofocus, which I think is awesome

this post isnt organized at all but I hope it helps

I see! thank you haha - I have a bit of knowledge but I guess I'll learn haha
I'll for sure write a review tomorrow when I get it :D I'm pumped!

i've been trying to order one for a couple weeks now but have had no luck because i already have the 18-105mm kit lens and i can't seem to find the body alone anyyyyywhere.

no kidding..I'm tired of Nikon releasing all these mid-low end cameras though. Come out with a new D700 already!!!!

the D7k is considered mid-low end. it's right below the D300 which is considered a "pro body" isn't it? the only things the D300 has that the D7k doesn't is up to 8fps instead of 6 and 51 auto-focus points instead of 39 AF points. but the D7k's sensor, ISO range, movie resolution, and metering sensor beats the D300.

the D7000 is a great camera for it's price and i can't wait to get it

honestly, I haven't done much research on the D7000. But If what you're saying is true, then why are they releasing a D300 that is "Pro" when it isn't as good the "not pro" D7000. I feel like a lot of publications look you over because the meta-data says "D90 or D7000" (not Pro)

the D300s is an older body and the D7000 is brand new

right now the D7000 is pretty equal to the D300s

the D300s will be replaced by the D400 next year which will be better than the D7000

does that make sense?

I mean it's still mag - body.
It feels a little lighter built than my d200, but it's better than a D300s in pretty much every aspect.
It also is a little under the d700 but pretty much on par optically other than the FX... however, I have a fair amount of DX lenses and I don't care to invest the money on a FX camera that would have to crop my fisheye, 12-24 and a couple of my other lenses.

This! I was so excited and pre-ordered. Nikon is really pissing me off now. Its been backordered for over a month!
