the second link doesn't work for me, but it seems to be the same link as the 55-200mVR, so I'm kid of confused about what different lenses you are looking at?

I would get the 55-200mm VR, I have the same lens and for the price point it is a good lens. I'd recommend it to others. Some say the VR on tele lenses is a mute point because you'll be shooting fast enough anyways but I do think it helps and has been an assest when I've been shooting on the boat.

it will work fine, that lens is made basically for the D40 and the D60 where they do not have internal AF motors and cameras that are aimed towards the beginner/ mass consumer market.
