Custom domain

I'm looking to set up my own site with a custom domain. I know you can buy the rights to the name from godaddy etc., but what services do you guys use to actually host your site? I know tumblr and 500px offer support for custom domains, but what are some better options?
 
Depends on what you're using really. For my site, I use wordpress, so I can buy a domain through wordpress or thought a host. I chose to use a host site, because you can install wordpress builders into certain hosts (ie bluehost, what I use). So i bought a domain/server space from bluehost (85 bucks for a year) then I installed wordpress into that domain and build my site from there.
 
got my domain from godaddy, $12 a year, really good costumer support if you have any problems
 
yeah, godaddy might be a tad more expensive but their customer support is top notch.

Hostgator has cheap hosting
 
after i got mine, like 30 min later i got a call from someone at their tech support thanking me for starting my account and offered to walk me through all the shit on the site, which was super helpful
 
JustHost.com, $45 a year for unlimited everything. I've had about 1 hour of downtime on two occasions in the last 4 years.
 
I got my site hosted with Fatcow.com

Very straightforward, 20$/year for domain+hosting and it's 100$ powered by wind-energy, which I think is really good.

What I did is, I was busy signing up, filled in my emailadress and then closed the window. An hour later I got an email from them for a 15 dollar discount or something. 2$/month. Not bad.
 
i could help you with anything if you got skype... i know some really good wesbites and stuff. btw you don't need hosting depending on what you decide to use.
