Current public parks: Hood vs Whistler(and where to get skis mounted at hood)

first, I tried searching here and google but kept getting timed out messages because windows sucks!

So!, while my bro is gone I may be able to take a secret day or two trip to hood or whistler to ski. I was curious how good the public parks are at both, BUT MOSTLY HOW THE HOOD PUBLIC PARK IS because it is 2 hours less driving and has a better chance of being a two-ski-day trip than 1. I mostly care about jumps. Also, I take it hood has no lift running for the public park, so does that mean people just tend to the park occasionally that are skiing it and you have to hike it? Is it really hard to sneak into Windells park and act like you know what is going on? If they are both not worth it, maby I can find a snow patch with a roll over on Mount Rainier to use my shovel on!

oh, and more importantly, I have my new unmounted 181 Pipe Cleaners, so WHERE CAN I GET MY SKIS MOUNTED? Is evo still mounting? I could probably get it done there, but if not there where in hood will do it fast? Off the topic, but if anybody has some red S914s they could get to me(in Seattle) by Tuesday I may be interested.

be ready to waste a shit load of cash. $52 to ride the chairlift one time and then hike the park the rest of the day.

I was up there the past three days and the public park had some rails, pipe and one jump that will probably be taken down. I think that windells and hcsc are finishing up soon so i think they will have the public park higher up like they did at the start of the year, not positive though. If that does happen and they dont destroy the jumps then that public park would be sick

sorry for double post but i got a free pass from some guy leaving as i was walking up. Didnt have to clip one or anything.
The racers leave early

how long of a hike if you do not buy the ticket? I can just wear normal shoes(or crampons and hiking boots if it is snow) to get to the park with skis/boots on the backpack.

Also, what exaclty was the guy about 3 down saying about when Windells closes it being up for hiker skiers? That would be sick, camp for like a week at Hood for free and ski for free. Lots of power bars and cheap food.

last year you coulda hiked but now they are on that shit. you hike, you will most likely be kicked out. It is kinda a fucked up situation this late in the year.

Seriously!?? What a dick move to kick somebody out for hiking up dirt to a mini park, instead of getting a ticket about twice the price of a 3 foot dump day at Baker mid-season.

Whistlers not even open i dont think. shep at mountain soul will mount your skis fast, where as everywhere else is a race shop. you really should have done this trip like 3 weeks ago.

well this whole trip is based on my brother being gone so that we save $$, and now he is finally gone as of an hour ago for a week =D . When is Windells last session, because hiking that park sounds fun to me.

That's not how it works man, Hood moves their public park to where high cascades or windells was, high cascades I think. You'll still have to pay

either get your skis mounted at mountain soul under exit. or at mt.hood alpine racing center by the brew pub. these are the best two places in town

god damnit. This whole thing seems like it sucks alot. Is the park at least good when they have the High Cascades park part in?

Maby I will go somewhere high by a road, like Crystal of Baker, and shovel all left over snow into a takeoff and kicker, that lands in a grassy downslope roughly 25 feet out. yeah. Get ready for the best TR ever comming your way.

I dunno man Ive never gon down this late in the year but I think Im headed down to ride the 14th/.15th so it still seams worth it to me.

I was there yesterday and about 15 people hiked up to the public park. it starts at the bottom of magic mile and they said it took about 45 minutes and they were in snowboard boots.

so gay of them.

Anybody know when Windells/whatever the other camp is is done so that we can hit those parks?

windells last sessions is coming up soon (like a weak or something) also evo is still mounting skis and stuff but they take like a month to do it.(3 weaks to have my bindings adjusted to new boots when they didn't even need to be re-drilled or anything.

wow...that adjustment takes 5 minutes max on about any bindings I can think of..at a demo day it takes 12 seconds... you should have done it yourself.

Evo has done that for me in a couple minutes before. They just don't call you when your shits done you have to call them.

the high cascade lanes you can lap on the lift (its on the higher lift), but id be pretty sure you wont be able to hit windels, its the farthest lane, they dont really like people poaching, and they probably plow the takeoffs when camp is over.

call up seattle ski. 206 548 1000. trent will mostly likely be the one to hit you back and can get that shit done asap. if you dont hear back right away pm me and ill get you in touch.

Really really bad idea. There is not much snow left right now, not to mention at the end of August.

K, can I lap High Cascades park or whatever now? If I go it will be Wednesday.

WEDNESDAY: What is up around then? Is the upper lift open with a decent park??? SOmebody please give me a rundown of what is up then.

I have unmounted LL2s and Pipe Cleaners, but only one pair of bindings(Peak 18s) that are meant for the LL2s..is there a good pipe? I might just mount up the LL2s and I can use them on rails and jumps, just doubt pipe. I just ordered some 914 Labs to go on the PCs, so I don't want double the holes unless there is a great pipe for me to use them on.

FUCK

I will go to Evo then and pay the $35. I better call and ask to have somebody do it for me tomorrow within 45 minutes of drop off so I don't have to come back to pick them up another day. Possibly hood wendesday and/or thursday.

SO WHO KNOWS EXACLTY WHAT IS UP WITH HOOD ATM?? I want to go Wednesday or Thursday but not if that second lift isn't open/if the park sucks.

Hood blows right now... i hiked jibs for like 4 hours yesterday and I could stay for another week or 2 and ski but im so fuckin over it, bout to peace to portland and just chilli n a hotel

So I ended up going yesterday..

They have about 4-5 rails/boxes of a few different shapes up. The superpipe works but they didn't cut it before the start of yesterday so it was sort of mini-sun cupped and hard. A bit catchy on the top so that can hurt...

There is one jump, not super big but has decent air time and a smooth landing(wax your skis well) and the hike for it isn't hard. There is a quarter pipe after that but it hasn't been cut in a few days. I am glad I went but more than 2-3days would have been long. I met Cody townsend lapping the jump when I was and didn't know who he was for the first bit, got some advice from him so that was cool. He was on his (191?) Shoguns and they sure looked like a fun ski, seemed to ski switch well and he sure loved them.

BRING A GALLON JUG OF WATER! I forgot my water and ended my day early due to cramping(I had also eaten a fair amount of salted snow not thinking..that may have led to some cramping). Also I bet you can hike to the park no problem(it opened between 9:20 and 9:45) if you go from the lodge up it wouldn't be too long(as in where people ski down then hike out, don't hike liftline it looked rocky and longer)

theres a really low chance that you will get kicked out if you hike it without a pass

i was there three days and they never checked me

theres too many people to check them all, and i only say someone checking once, and he checked like two people
