its on discovery channel. and its crazy interesting. this episode is talking about how the world was created and can the laws of nature co-exist with equally with a belief of god.
so if you have watched it discuss whats being said....
people who havent watched it, you should.

Yeah that show blew my mind. He said that before the big bang there was no time therefor there was no time for a god to be created

I saw previews for this while watching shark week!! I guess I'll catch it later, I love religion vs. science, and I love Hawking even more.

just the things he brings up are things you would never think about...i felt the show is a total mind fuck

this left me a bit.... confused i guess. Its hard for me to conceptualize time as a physical thing that can be bended/manipulated by other physical objects.

Sorry for 3 posts here but i really want to watch next weeks. Its about how we would do in an alien attack. Because hawkings believes in aliens. It will explain why he thinks they exist and how we would do under a attack.

ahhh I can't wait, I also believe that there is something else out there so shows like this always get me thinking

just started watching this weeks episode and its pretty intense and these people are pulling out the facts about how the possibilities of other forms of life in other galaxies very interesting plus really mind blowing

Am i the only person disappointed in this show? I watched the one about an alien invasion today... it just seemed really stupid and full of bs. Too much reliance on special effects and random hypotheticals... not enough meaningful discussion or interesting information.I don't think i've learned anything from this show yet.

well i wouldn't say i have learned from this but it somewhat changed my prospective in the way i think. i mean some of this does seem a little fooffy but some of the things they are bringing up is pretty interesting and the way they got to that conclusion.

The discussion of other life forms isn't really mind blowing, they also have no reason to attack if they were more advanced than ourselves. Maybe for water or other basic supplies but they could easily go to some other planet that is closer for less money, or whatever they trade with. In the Stephen Hawking one I too found it a little too hypothetical and not enough facts to back most of it up. Hell the big bang theory is still a theory and not proven after all, so everything he said being biased off of that can be seen as being a guess. All in all I was a little bit disappointed in it.

i can understand how people can be disappointed with it. im not one to think about all of this stuff so it gives me something to think about.... but not every thing can be proven but i find it interesting how these people can come up with these conclusions, granted they might be wrong but its pretty cool how they come up with these things. well because there is no true proof of what they are thinking everything has to hypothetical. i find stephen hawking fascinating because the thoughts he has are out of this world. the man is brilliant with the things he comes up with

Probably because he is talking about the cosmos. But in all seriousness I get what you are saying but I believe that everything can be proven, it's just going to take a hell of a long time, I mean you learn about gravity and that the earth orbits the sun at such a young age when it's only been like 3-4 hundred years since people would spend their entire lives trying to figure this stuff out. Sure we won't know the answer to everything in our lifetime, but it will happen eventually.

Your understanding of what constitutes a theory seems to be lacking. You can never prove a theory to be correct. You can find evidence to support the theory, but the second you find one piece of evidence that goes against theory, the theory is proven wrong and must be re-evaluated.

There is a large amount of evidence supporting the big bang theory, and it currently provides the best explanation of how our universe began.

I think people expect a "theory of everything" that will be fully satisfying, but the question people want an answer to is "why?"... and i dont think we will ever get that answer.

tried to watch the alien one, too boring and stupid. it was nice when i turned off the sound and just looked at it, though. the commentary/ that girl host couldn't watch

Yeah the alien one was pretty weak. The others have been good though so I expect the rest of the series to be the same.

reading Hawking's books is much more educational and eye-opening, i fully recommend reading them rather than watching the dumbed-down tv programs, you'll learn so much more and he explains things in a way that is fairly entertaining. i highly suggest getting the illustrated editions though, otherwise a lot of what he has to say will be difficult to understand.

The big bang occurred spontaneously, creating "time" with it. Remember, the arrow of time is just equivalent to positive entropy... If there is nothing at all, there is no entropy, therefore no arrow of time. (i think?)
