Culture, human history, and universal novelty

Hey all - I'll keep it brief. I think it is really important to question what is around us in terms of our cultures, our behaviors, and the way in which the world exists at this moment in time. I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately and luckily I found a man named Terence Mckenna. After 6 months of reading and listening to his work, I would say he is a man who could call it as it is. Almost like a prophet in my opinion. I think it is important to share these ideas with all of you because we need change most especially at this time where it is critical that we change our ways of living before we ruin everything the earth offers for our generation and generations to come. We are at a critical point where we need to use our minds in a rational manner.

If you aren't thinking about this seriously then I suggest you leave this thread. This thread is for ponderers, thinkers, questioners, and people who want to change their individual worlds. Terence McKenna has some weird ass ideas but he does a fucking awesome job backing them up and putting his ideas in layman terms.

If you really want a trip, I would suggest getting nice and stoned before reading this article. Its a long read but its fucking awesome and I doubt if your doing some soul searching that article won't flip a switch in your head. Terence McKenna is pretty low key in our generation so please if you find this article important, interesting or whatever, share it please!!!! That is the power of the internet and we need change!

If you read the article, you may get the idea that all systems set-up to guide us through life are very, very flawed and deny us of our humanness

I know i've seen you post before in one of my other threads, and I think this article is right down your alley. Read it if you have time, I guarantee it will at least interest you!

If you read the article, let me know what your perspective is on it. I can tell you haven't read it because the time that has passed since I posted this thread isn't long enough for you to read all the info

thanks for posting this article. aside from good ski edits, its things like this that keep me on newschoolers. one thing that really struck a chord with me was how the structure of atoms reflects the organization of solar systems, and how the universe seems to be linked together in a system of orbits increasing in size. pretty cool to see it in print. there's so many good points (like on society, why people denounce psycadelics, connecting back with nature) in this article i can relate to. maybe i'll post a more thought out response later

You're a fucking boring faggot with all your communism bullshit. You need a proper right wing bootfucking and a deportation notice.

The same can probably be said of the idiot OP.

sounds like the shroomery might be more up your alley for interwebz reads rather than newschoolers. But Mckenna has many good ideas, and many far-flung ideas. Another great mind that enjoyed going on 5+gram mush trips in a completely dark room with no sound. dive on in, gain your mind.

I have to ask. Are you being serious when you talk about that kind of stuff? I just find it really hard to believe.

I'm not saying that. I know how immature NS can be. "Pee in her butt." I want people to share opinions and ideas, what I don't want is 14 years old who are here just to gain posts and say shit like inb4 and all that crap

Yeah I thought that was pretty cool too. The thing that really hit me is that the universe is a novelty producing engine, while the act of habit is a method of fighting against novelty. You can see this idealism in our society today while we live out outdated systems and ways of living because of our habits, while novelty tries to push down the walls of all these ideas so that new systems and new complexities can be erected in their place

thats cool i guess, but when you start doing acid everyday and your ideas stop logically flowing from each other it becomes apparent that psychedelics aren't the end all to earth's problems. Here's where drug addled idealists fall off the wagon, when it's time to actually do something. They're happy to take other peoples life work and turn a profit for their own ego (see watson & crick, Steve Jobs) but they essentially lack the know how to ACTUALLY IMPROVE LIFE for anyone except themselves and attempt to keep up the illusion that they're actually worth something to society, often stealing riches from those deserving of them.

Let me explain about watson and crick. They are the men who theorized the correct structure for DNA and gave acid a lot of credit for that (credit shouldn't be given to acid) but they in fact STOLE the data they used to do this from a woman far more deserving of the nobel prize, Rosalind Franklin. They used her X-ray crystallography photos of DNA without her knowledge or consent, didn't give her credit for the pictures in their work and rushed to publish the model before SHE INDEPENDENTLY FIGURED IT OUT. Long story short, they didn't deserve the nobel prize that she should have won if she were alive at the time.

Steve jobs, well the examples are endless of his credit claiming self glorifying bastardization of moral decency.

Rosalind Franklin went on to do work with tobacco mosaic virus and polio before she died of ovarian cancer.

I think you overlooked what he was saying. I didn't mention anything about the people you mentioned. Terence Mckenna, took pyschadelics very rarely, in large doses, alone at night as sort of a spiritual journey. He didn't try to improve any ones life. He shared his ideas via his books and speeches. Any retard can go fry there brain out on pyschadelics. Theres a certain sense of responsibility that comes with the drugs. When used correctly and in a rational sense, a lot of people of brought some cool ideas to the table. This article is just one of the ideas that was influenced by pyschadelic drug use.

very interesting read - this guys is deff a shroom head.

culture might be your friend or it might not be. all depends on who you are

really. i agree that western culture has made us very sensitive to psychedelic

drugs. there are so many things that we overlook in day to day activities that

should be given more attention. we get desensitized by culture so much that we don’t

even know ourselves, we forget what really matters. The dominant thought on

most western minds is how to make the next buck, or whats the next purchase.

Psychedelic drugs in general need to be treated with

respect. It’s not as if taking them will make you a better person. Simply put –

they help open up “doors of perception” allowing the individual to re-think

issues that were previously closed to them before. They don’t add anything to

your way of thinking but instead help you approach knowledge and thought in a

new light. That’s probably why most western minds don’t enjoy them, because

they make you question the safe little bubble people create for themselves.

thanks for posting i enjoyed the read, right to the end.

depends on the definition. the wage slave who doesn't own their means and modes of production can hardly call themselves more free than the oxe forced to plow a field for daily sustenance.

on the other hand, having the state own the means of production means the citizen loses essential negative freedom to try for a position, fail, and then keep trying. the democratization of the means of production could lead to vicious tyranny of the majority. if the state is not representative and still owns the means of production, what freedom would the citizen have left?

oh and

a class structure would absolutely still exist. not even marx advocated equal pay among all positions. as long as societies still value the doctor more than the ditch digger, and pay accordingly, there will always be classes

then there would be the opportunity for the tyranny of the majority. any faction that took the majority would give all the shit work to the minority
