CT 2.0 2021/2022 / Volkl Revolt 104 / ?

Hi,

I've been skiing racecarvers forever and I'm looking for a second pair of ski which is a bit more versatile in terms of skiing off-piste and doing some basic tricks on and off piste (switch, butters, 180s/360s) MAYBE trying out the park more often but park is definitely not top priority.

I've been looking at the CT 2.0 both the latest and the current model but I'm still not able to tell the differences properly and how they would affect me.

I was also thinking about the Volkl Revolt 104.

I'm around 6ft (182cm) and was thinking about getting something between 173-177cm.

Maybe you can help me sort this out a little or name other skis that might fit my needs that I might have overlooked.

Appreciate your help :)

Cheers

Unable to edit my post but I forgot:

ARV 96 were also on my list but from what I have read the CT 2.0 would be the better option if I had to choose between the both of them.

I think your sizing is wrong, skis like that are different than the skis you're used to: they have a twin tip, double rocker and a more centered mount point, leading the skis into skiing shorter than they are.

I'm about your size (183) and I would not get a ski like that in less than 180. A lot of brands carry 184 and it's usually my go to size for that type of skis. For a Revolt 104 that skis has so much rocker I'd get the 188.

Don't get the K2 Reckoner 102, with your background and your profile they're way to soft, yes they'll be fun to butter but from what I understand that's a small part of what you want to do, I bet you want a ski that you can skis hard everywhere and do nice carve on groomers while still being a "playful" twin tip. That's the assumption I'm making, correct me if I'm wrong and discard my recommendation if that's the case.

The options you named (including ARV 96) are probably good with what you're looking for IMO. The Revolt are not going be the most stable on slopes, but they look super fun and they should be a bit better than the other options on powder.

The K2 Poacher is going to be somewhat similar to the ARV96 but a little bit stiffer and an excellent carver. Not the easiest to butter but excellent for everything else you described.

The Armada Stranger is also gonna be a good carver, I haven't personally tried it but it looks interesting and that's a ski coming to my mind when reading your first message.

That makes perfect sense, thanks for pointing that out.

Your assumption is on point, I tried to butter with my Blizz Firebirds every now and then just for the fun of it but they're obviously way too stiff and just not made for shenanigans ;))

In theory I'm looking for a twin tip that works well in powder and freeride, yet fun on groomers and playful enough to try tricks every now and then. As these skis don't exist I'm trying to figure out whatever comes closest to this :-))

Unfortunately I don't live near the mountains so I'm only getting around 15-20 days on skies per season. Also I'm "already" 28 so I don't see myself double-backflipping around the park (as much as I would love to be able to backflip on skis).

The options you named (including ARV 96) are probably good with what you're looking for IMO.

Good to know I'm on the right track, thanks. I will also have a look at the skis you named.

Also I was thinking about getting touring bindings like Marker Baron or something similar. Is that a reasonable consideration or dumb?

Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it!

Perhaps the j skis allplay or vacation might be worth looking into as well

Hmm, if powder is a priority with a bit of touring check out the Armada ARW UL, it's technically in the women category but it's a unisex ski and it comes in 188.

For bindings I would advise against the Baron, frame bindings are on the go, it's heavy and it skis a bit weird. If you have a boot with insert (or plan on getting one) I'd recommend the Marker Duke PT. If not maybe look at something like the Daymakers that you pair with a regular alpine binding.

For the backflip, skis don't matter, it's all about learning on the trampoline and then the right amount of courage on a good jump/day.

That's good to know. The shop I contacted advised against the Duke and recommended the Baron but also said there are no differences between the CT 2.0 models from this year and last year other than the color.

Would you generally advise against a touring binding with these kind of skis?

For a regular binding I had something like these 2 in mind: Look Pivot 14 or Marker Griffon

“said there are no differences between the CT 2.0 models from this year and last year other than the color.”

The 21 CT 2.0(and CT 1.0) had 2 sheets of titanal underfoot(under bindings and above the base to prevent rail damage, rubber dampening tip/tail and underfoot and weigh 350gr plus more than the 22 CT 2.0. The 22 CT 2.0 uses carbon reinforcements instead so it’s similar stiffness and the exact same shape but a lot lighter.

The CT 2.0 has less taper and rocker vs the Revolt 104 which will be more surfy and playful but less precise. Similar weight with the Revolt 104 and 22 CT 2.0. The 21 CT 2.0 is more playful charger with it’s increased weight.

Duke and Duke PT are two different bindings

Ok, thanks. The shop doesn‘t have the regular duke anyway so I guess they meant the PT.

But yeah, I‘ll have to think about the binding a little more

Thanks for all your help I think Im going with the Revolts 104.

I'm not sure which binding it's gonna be. In case I take touring bindings I'll go with the PT 16 but do you guys have recommendations for regular alpine bindings? Is the Griffon 13 any good?
