CSU premed program.

I'm currently a sophomore recreation/tourism major, business minor, and I'm rethinking my career choice. This may be a long shot but has anyone gone through the premed program at CSU? If you did, how difficult was it, and where did you end up for med school? I'm on break right now and I plan on talking to my advisor when I go back to school, but any first hand advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

I know people that did premed then went into dental school. You should have ur science GPA above 3.7 to have a fighting chance. Should have at least 200+ hours volunteer. That will also help with ur recommendation letters. try and have ur MCAT score in top 90 percentile. Then you will get in somewhere. Your best shot would be at CU in if you have instate.

Thanks man, my science gpa right now is 3.4ish and I have well above 200 volunteer hours. I will probably end up changing my major to biology and take all the extra pre med classes on the side. 4 semesters of chem with labs is going to be brutal though. CU would probably be my goal because of the high CSU student acceptance rate and the instate tuition.

If you are considering going into medicine, I'd highly recommend spending some time in a hospital (either volunteer or get a part time / summer job) to make sure that it's worth the commitment. The whole process is long and demanding enough that if you're not entirely sure that it's what you want to do, you're not likely to be successful at it.

CSU's programs are good, but whether you get in or not is entirely dependent on your individual effort.
