taking a cross country trip in an old 1981 Jeep CJ-7. I will be starting in the bay area and ending up in Traverse City, MI. as of right now, i have absolutely no clue which way im going. preferably I would like to take smaller roads (not 80 or any of the main ones). i wanna see some cool shit. have never really been between the east coast and the west coast. looking for suggestions on which way to take or any cool stuff i should check out on the way to michigan. +k for advice :)

it would be pretty sweet if you went north around lake superior and came into Traverse city from the north.

Bay Area huh.. go through Tahoe or head north up to Oregon/Washington. Pass through Idaho. Also try to make it through Montana/Wyoming. You could then dip down through Colorado and then after that I have no clue.

*PREACH* make sure you hit up Wall Drug and the Corn Palace too ;)

Always lololololol. Make sure to go to the needles and bitch at the climbers because there are no buffalos there too.

If you head into Oregon, take Highway 1 on your way up and check out Crater Lake, its pretty neat.

It sounds like you're staying in MI after but if for some reason you're heading back, this would be sick to do as a loop. One northern route and a southern route.

I don't know much about the more-western areas, but you should try and swing through Tetons/Yellowstone, then head up to Devils Tower (add in Tensleep if you're a climber). Badlands and the cool parts of South Dakota are right by Devil's Tower. Then I'd echo going around Lake Superior if you can, the northern midwest is beautiful and there's a lot of great smaller, state roads you can take. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is certainly worth a look.

When are you going? if you choose to not go north of Superior, stopping in Chicago and/or Milwaukee is a good call. Summerfest is a big, cheap music festival in MKE from 6/28 - 7/9, and Lollapalooza is another option in Chicago 8/3-8/6

Leaving from traverse? Do you want to go north or south out of michigan?

Hey man, i'm in ludington for the next two months or so if you want to know anything about the area shoot me a message. Weve got a cool state park and some awesome sand bluffs.

To the dude who just bumped.

Mount Rushmore in SD. Tetons and Yellowstone in Wyoming.

Wanna make it really interesting? Go no GPS and just take road signs in the direction you want to go.... West.

Stopping at random places advertised off the sides of highways can turn out to be quite cool and exceed your expectations too.

Nightime is my favourite part of the day and I it is especially beautiful in Las-Vegas, the city where you can enjoy your life at the full length. Where the building and the streets are with the turned colourful lights on . I have already chosen the date of journey on this website https://rove.me/to/las-vegas and I hope to spend an unforgettable time there.

You got an old CJ-7? Take er out to Moab of course! Little crawling in Moab and you're right around the coral pink sand dunes, Grand Canyon, and Zion national parks. Great places to take some pictures, go on hikes, and camp around for a few days. From there, there is plenty of places to explore with a more northern route.

If you do head north right off the bat from Cali, highly recommend heading up the coast into Oregon, checking out crater lake, possibly hitting the gambler 500 if you're around in mid july, Bend, Corvalis, Eugine, Portland, Ashland etc. are all cool places to check out if you have some spare time + hood is still open for summer if you want to swing by there.

Yellowstone National Park is a must

I dont know man. I thought Yellowstone was disappointing. I spent my summers growing up in glacier national park in the northwestern part of montana and think its lightyears better than Yellowstone. I'd hit glacier up before yellowstone.
