Crooked pivots

I took my pivots into a shop to get mounted because I did not trust myself and then rode them that same day. All seemed well until I got home and realized the mount was crooked as hell as shown in the picture. Does this matter and is it okay to ride them like this?

I will take them back in but I have to wait 2 more weeks until I go back home for winter break. I also don’t think I have the receipt or anything so hopefully they will still do something about it

Call them and talk to the guy/gal running the show. Email them pics if needed. Don't let them just offer you a remount, be polite but dig your heels in because they owe ya new sticks for sure. May not even have to go back in.

good idea I’ll call them tomorrow. Feel like there’s little chance they give me new skis though since I didn’t buy the skis there

Shouldn't matter my man. Measure twice, drill once, it isn't rocket surgery. If a shop is mounting bindings they likely understand that if they fuck up it will cost them.

If you don't hold these places accountable they're gonna keep swiss chessin' people boards thinkin it's no biggie. Skis arent cheap, stand up for yourself.

Also I bet your fwd pressure is fucked because the indicator isn't directly in line with direction of force from the boot. Could be a bit higher than it should be and you'd never know until an ER visit.
 
WTF? how did anyone let this fly in a shop? A paper mount printed on wet tissues and thrown randomly at the ski could produce better results

I got a nice chuckle out of this. I agree though. That is seriously buggered up. I would show them the skis. If you filled out the marker form even without a receipt they have record of your skis being worked on. I'd be polite and firm and tell them you do not accept just redrilling (as theyd have to redo both skis now to make sure the BSL lines up correctly) and you do not want another set of holes in the ski. Im not even sure a helicoil could align it with how far out of center that is.

the only way i can see this happening is having the rubber foot on the left back of the jig fall off and the tech not notice.
 
Haha, good thing pivots are the only binding in which it would be remotely possible to get down the mountain with a mount this atrocious. After the fact get this checked out man, I can't believe some ski shop let this fly.

Worst thing is a remount wont be possible if you straighten that out the holes wont move much and will be too close. OP got fucked by the shop. I'd like to hear what the shop says.

how dose the shop mess up like that they should use a mount jig for your binding endless the free handed it

I'm going to call the shop today and talk to them about it. I cannot go back to the shop until winter break thought cause Im at school 8 hours away. Ill let you know what they say

the ski is 95 and the brake width is 115. I had a 100 brake on there but that heel piece exploded and i only had a 115 to replace. The other brake is 100 though.

They also put my din setting waaaayy higher than I've had them before and other shops put them at. and i did not get taller or heavier

I could go to the local shop here but they are not the ones that fucked it up. The shop that fucked it up is 8 hours away which i will be able to go to in a couple weeks

What do you mean exploded? Did they have to re-mount the heel piece as a result?

You can see what happened on the last forum i posted called broken pivot heel piece. They broke on my last pair of skis so i took the bindings off and got the broken brake replaced by a 115 brake at a shop (not the shop that mounted my bindings crooked)
 
I think the law in Michigan states that if the mount angle is off by more than 15 degrees, ownership of the shop at fault is then given to the victim of such crime.. which means free skis like some others have stated. You will make it through this.
 
I know they’re pivots but damn you shouldn’t have to pivot them just to click in straight lol. Thats so fucked up man you might be a super chill and quiet guy but you can’t take that shit im not saying go in guns blazing but if they don’t give you new skis ur gettin robbed

can confirm is quiet guy, met him to buy some merch and he wouldnt even speak, just made hand gestures.

If you really make a stink about it you could probably get them to pay for a local shop to remount the skis to get you by until you are back home and can replace the skis. They are preventing you from enjoying your early season skiing
 
Op how did you not notice this when picking up your skis or before clicking in. Also they clearly didn't do a binding release check, or either gave zero fucks, because that misalignment sticks out like a sore thumb and anyone would see that. I'm still in awe... Holy shit how the fuck do you do this with a jig? How high do you have to be? Jesus. I'd be flipping my shit considering how much some shops charge to mount (some upwards of $70).

Don't forget to get a refund in addition to new skis. Wow.
 
Definitely contact the shop ASAP through email so you can send them pictures of it. Then maybe follow up with a phone call before going in, in person. TBH I would be dying to ski right now if there was snow, and as long as you're careful you will probably be okay. Don't push them though and definitely get on the shop's ass!
 
One of the problems you’re going to run into is that the new set of holes to straighten them out is going to be literally right next to the old set of holes. So they may have to remount the entire set further toward center or something to gap the holes enough. Either way it’s pretty bad

That job is laughable. You could literally just eyeball them and get it better then that. After having shops screw up mounts for me twice in a row when I was a kid. I just started doing it myself. 12 years later and I’ve had no problems. Plus think of all the money I’ve saved over 12 years averaging 2-3 pairs of skis a season.

I honestly don’t know how I didn’t notice when I was there. The shop was at a ski hill that I skied at that day for a bit so I got the skis and just walked out and clicked in. Noticed that clicking in was a little fucky though cause it took a couple tries but didn’t think about it after that. I also never ejected that day which is probably a bad thing

I have another pair I can ride until I get them fixed. Going to call the shop today. Hopefully they will give me new skis
 
like many have said, how did they fuck this up? its almost like the dude put the binding on the ski randomly, marked some holes and drilled them with no regard. Surprise you could actually click into your bindings and ride ?

I was debating mounting them myself but ended up taking them in because I didn’t trust myself. Do you just use a printed out paper template ?

I have no idea. I’ve gotten skis mounted at this place in the past and it’s always been fine. Going to call them as soon as I get out of class today and will follow up on this thread with what they say

Thinking about it more, it makes sense they worked because of the design of the heel piece, imagine if they mounted some markers like that, pretty sure you wouldnt be able to click in haha

Over the years I’ve done it several ways. I’ve eyeballed before. Used paper jigs. Or homemade jigs. Some bindings are much easier then others. I now use only pivots on all my skis so I have it down for those bindings pretty well. I didn’t trust myself at first either. But in reality you’re just drilling holes into a board and then putting screws in it. Not that complicated. And from OPs example. You probably won’t screw it up much worse then the shop could! I’d suggest practicing on an older pair. Find a pair that’s back mounted and re mount them center or vice versus. Ski them and see if you can tell a difference from any other shop mount.
