Critique my new drawings por favor!

Hey NS, so I'm on my semester abroad down under in NZ and skiing my brains out. The landscape down here is so incredibly breathtaking that I would love to just throw everything out the window and move here for good. Although this dream sounds appealing I should probably finish my degree first. Through exploring the south island I've gained a new aspiration to express and create and my artwork is the best possible way to show my new found energy. Hope you enjoy the drawings, and definitely feel free to critique. Also, I know that some of the pictures aren't finished yet but I couldn't hold myself back from creating this thread.

cool you are getting back into art. i am trying to do the same, but am usually unmotivated. i really like the octopus one. the rest seem pretty disjointed- a lot going on, no real focul point. maybe some color would help tie them together or something? they are cool to look at, but don't really "pop." keep it up, though

pretty sick man, i love the trees in the first one

I would suggest using a ruler in some spots and yes, creating a focal point in the drawings makes them pop a little better too. Keep it up

that ocopus one is sick, but the rest are a little too random for me
not a main point in em, too mashy

I'd agree with creating some sort of focal point. I'm not a big art person and know little about it all, so take my comments lightly. But it seems like its all kind of mixed in there together with no central point on a few of them. Maybe thats what you were going for though, I don't know, as I said.

The octopus one is excellent though. I liked that one a lot

they all suck carson.

nawz, first one i really like the symbology in it. especially the all seeing eye brekign through the bottom of the pyramid and in the sun. i like the fractal desings on the pyramid behind it too.

second one is cool and all but it doesn't really grab me in any special way

third one would be awesome if you colored it in or as a mural

the octopus is just dope

the one w/ the butterfly is way too busy. i have no idea what's goin on. the last word in "what do you see" is really hard to figure out what you're getting at, especially since it's in an "S". if it had more of a theme to it or at least some consistancy it would be much better.

last one has a lot of potential but like the two above said, your stuff needs a focal point.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far. I know my work's a bit mashy, and hosting the pics online doesn't really do it any more justice but I'll definitely work on having a more central focus.

So...after getting really stoked on drawing I decided to do my final project with paint. Unfortunately all the school had to work with was acrylic, but I did my best! And I took a lot from the drawings posted above. The use of black, white, and red was really inspired by Maori traditional art, and a lot of the imagery that I use is meant to represent ideas and feelings that I've had in NZ. Only three weeks till I leave, but this place will forever be embedded in my heart. Hope you enjoy. ... and the canvas is about 2.5' by 3', so it's a lot bigger than any of my drawings.

And also here is my artist statement hanging below it:

that's sick man, brings in both of what you like and what you listened.

definitely going somewhere, keep drawing and posting, and more inportanty do what you like, not what everyone wants. if it's real and original it'll being you to what you want.

Thanks man, I love the NS community so much that I really value all the feedback I get on my work and whether it's from someone who is in the industry/does art for a living or just some random kid, I appreciate it all.
I always love to let my instincts do the drawing rather than my head.
