Yo guys! Pretty stoked on this one, best footy I've captured on my new camera that's for sure!

Let me know what you would have done differently, both with the shots and the editing.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome, and if you enjoy it- please rate it up here on NS!

or head to vimeo to watch it in HD, I think im going to upgrade to the pro account soon: http://vimeo.com/26608302

thanks!

oh, I edited it in FCP X which I am really starting to enjoy using. Coming from a PC background before I bought my macbook last year I find it to be a great hybrid between fcp7 and premiere pro- anyone else like it?

Some really nice shots man. Only thing is I didn't really like the splitscreen wipe. Also some of the shots were a tad shaky but it didn't ruin the edit or anything.

I'm tryin to save up for a GH2, but after seeing what can be done with a hacked GH1 I might just save myself a few hundred bucks and pick one up. How difficult was it to install the hacked firmware, and what lenses did you use?

cool thanks man. I haven't even hacked mmy gh1 yet! that's how it shoots straight outta the box, im really impressed.

im planning on buying a shoulder mount soon so that might help a bit with some shots, but other than that it was either handheld or on a shitty tripod. hopefully further in the future i can cop a steady cam. I only used one lens, I dont even know the specs off my head haha but it was in a package deal for the gh1 from b&h for $599 but they stopped selling it there. I have another nikon lens but still need to buy an adapter ring.

thanks for the feedback guys!

i really enjoyed the edit man. i would look into buying a glidecam/steady-cam before you got the shoulder mount. i think you would find the steady-cam a lot more practical. just my 2 cents. nice work though man!

Sorta depends on the look you want though. Steadicams are good if you want that ghostly floating type movement, shoulder rig shots look more like a human filmed them. Plus steadicams are generally only good with a wide lens, and you pretty much have to balance it and then leave your focal length the same. With a shoulder rig you can swap lenses and zoom and it won't affect it so much.

really what it comes down to is the fact that they have completely different intended uses.

glidecams/steadicams, outside of the skiing world, are used only for specific shots where smooth movement is necessary and a dolly isn't possible, like following somebody walking. they are a little hard to learn to use (depending on how advanced it is), require some level of strength, and aren't really intended for prolonged use. even in skiing, you aren't holding it up all the time.

shoulder rigs are meant more for run and gun situations where setting up a tripod for every shot would be impossible, but you might need to be filming for long periods of time and you need greater maneuverability than a glidecam will give you. a good use for this is a project i filmed a while ago where i was just filming kids an event and i was constantly following different people around and getting different shots. there wasn't enough time for a tripod, but to film with a glidecam for that long would have been very tiring and unnecessary. plus a shoulder rig allows you to control focus and camera settings very easily. however, a shoulder rig won't do as much good for skiing, doesn't stabilize nearly as well as a glide/steadicam.

long story short, glide/steadicams are for either something like skiing or single shots in films, whereas shoulder rigs are intended for run and gun, documentary type shooting. they don't stabilize as well, but they are very easy and comfortable to use and afford you a much greater amount of control over your camera, plus they can be used in many more situations IMO.

thats interesting because I liked the revealing aspect it gave to the eerie 1st gainer shot. i dont know thats a good point though.

nice filming but its just random shit, if you're going to make an edit and put it on ns shoot those intro shots and then a summer sesh on a backyard setup, tramp or cliff. And find some new music

that was a sick edit, im not a big fan of just random stuff, but that was really sick. i would recommend getting a stabilizer, just to make it better

because then its boring, think about how much cooler it would be if he used some of these shots as an intro for a summer sesh.

well I didn't really shoot this video for newschoolers, i wanted to capture a great weekend on the lake with my best friends I spend the summers with and be able to show my friends back in vermont and vancouver how I get down all summer. As for the music, that's your opinion but I enjoy that track and thought it fit well with the video.

BUT I will be filming a summer session probably this weekend, so why don't you come back and tell me what to change in that shit too haha.

haha okay man whatever take it as a compliment, you have some real talent. i'd just rather see it in a ski edit than some random stuff
