Critique My CD [Mechanical Animal]

I have been freestyling for months, and finally decided to work on higher quality music, focusing on dope lyrics about my life. production values aren't the best, but the message gets through.

and on the real, fuck autotune, rap was going in the wrong direction

only 5 songs, really just a promotional because i do not own any of the beats.

if any DJs want the acapellas, let me know

ok...

1) your production is terrible. although it's tough to EQ with a subpar microphone (laptop mic?), even with basic programs like garageband you can compress the tracks and reduce the mids so it doesn't sound like a walkie talkie.

2) work on your flow. start writing some stuff down and practicing before you record.

3) your rhymes are subpar. some are some decently funny similes ("slammed like a door", I like that one) but listen to any hip-hop and you'll find that it's just plain out better.

I started where you were at age 15 and I got hated on a LOT. I have a natural talent for writing lyrics but the flow took me a while to get down and delivery is still being worked on after 3 years in the game. Just keep at it and you'll get better. Invest in a better microphone (check the Blue Snowball USB mic, it's the one I use) and learn to set up home studios with echo-muffling technology such as pillows and a homemade pop filter (stretch an old dress sock or something over a wire hanger and form a circle with it. place it in front of your mic and you've got your high amplitudes filtered out a bit).

Just keep at it, stay up, and keep rhyming. You'll get better as you write and record more and more.

^im going to review that as constructive critism...

I actually didn't like it at all, keep trying though, and invest in some better equipment. My setup cost me about $500 but at least it sounds amazing.

my setup cost me $100 in total (not including instruments) and it can sound pretty professional. there are ways to get around the economic factor.

I'll just go to my standard response to terrible shit like this:
White, middle class suburban kids: please stop trying to rap. You are not good, your beats are terrible, and you have no flow.
