Creating a portfolio

How do you guys do it? Website? Book? Just a folder of pics?

Do you write anything along with the pictures, like a comment at the bottom or a title?

What should I be looking to display? My technical knowledge and ability or my artistic talent?

Anything else regarding them. I'm making one to apply out to schools and would like some guidance on how I should go about presenting what I have. I am head yearbook photog at my school so I have a huge variety of pics I'm looking to showcase, everything from candids, portraits, landscape, astronomy, wildlife, etc. How should I organize them?

If you're making a portfolio collection to give to a college show them two things; a focus, and breadth.

A focus would be 5- 10 photos that have a direct theme; composition, subject, etc. Just like if you were to put a show on for a gallery, what would the theme be?

A breath would be another 5-10 photos but that's where you get to show them the range of ability you have, show all the techniques you enjoy and have fun with it.

That's how the AP Portfolio is set up when you take college level courses in high school and that format helped a lot when sending portfolios to school later on. Good luck!
