Anyone in here hit it up in the wintertime? I hear its a pretty sick backcountry spot, and having been there before it would look like it...

anyone skied there before? What are good routes to take, good spots for booters, etc?

true. that... at some point i heard there was a chairlift and some runs near by it may have been shut down... but that was like 6 years ago.

I'd be down to do a bc trip there. backcountry or off piste just did an article on it. looks pretty sweet

You can once again sled back there (couldnt last year).
Its just like the rest of the cascades... pretty flat, and the best stuff is off limits (for sleds) or tough to get to.
If your thinking of skinning, then Im not entirely sure, but I dont know how close you can get to CL area in the winter time.
Not too familiar with that area.

Damnit... freaking volcanos...
Is there ANYTHING steep in my half of oregon to hit backcountry with? or... ANYWHERE in oregon? seeing as Hood is pretty much the flattest thing ever...

Tam McArthur Rim outisde of Sisters has the best BC skiing in Oregon. easy touring, great snow, and awesome terrain. after going there in march it's all i ever talk/think about.

as for Hood, it has steep BC but has terrible terrible terrain traps

If I ever make it up to the Bend area... I guess i better find some folks with some sleds, or who's ready to tour... haha.

its a drive but i have a sled out in la grande and in the eastern oregon. mtns its steeper,
its looking good.. im going to head out in January.... check out Anthony lakes.. best one chair area EVER.
and btw hood is not the flattest thing ever.... how about midwest.. and your the one who moved up here. if you dont like it.. were not blocking the door!
but hood is pretty flat.. i will agree.

dude. sick. I actually almost went to Eastern, but I figured it was just too remote for me (four hours from a legit airport didnt seem that fun haha) and small. But I looked into Anthony Lakes. I def want to check it out if I ever get the chance to.
and i'm really not hating haha. I just come from Squaw and Tahoe, so i'm used to big, steep, crazy shit. Believe me I'm pretty effin stoked on the fact that I have the relatively steep siskiyous, klamaths, and yolla bollys in my backyard. Regardless, places like bachelor and hood are pretty fun spots to shred no matter what. It's allll skiing.
Its just weird to me why most volcanic mountains tend to be so flat and moderately pitched (even in california they lack a lot of pitch sometimes - look at Shasta, Northstar, and the bottom half of Mammoth - Great for parks and blue groomers, but they are not crazy gnar.)

theres a yurt system at the base of tam mcarthur thats 35 a night and 20 to be towed in a sled. pretty sweet! im heading to the wallowas in january. theyre supposed be really really good

yeah.. anothony lakes has the best powder in oregon.... i mean. fuck its good. and the back side is amazing and then you take turns pulling people on a sled back to the ski lift... its pretty much the shit.. and its owend by baker county now... 30 bucks a ticket.. half price thursdays. two for one fridays...... you got to make it out man... im planning on heading out there and tearing it up around the second week of january. and check out hoodoo.. and willamete pass.. and the tram at the pass. there some nuggets of fun here and there. but you know that oregon is known for its park. the modern terrain park started at mt hood. and well you know where its gone from there.
