Crabbe Mountain - Grand Slam Invitational II

What I dont understand about this competition is the number of spots avaliable to compete. I know there is at least 10 legit kids at crabbe that could throw down a nice run( trick on and off most rails and do corks, spins ect.) so say if only 3-4 of these guys get to compete you leaving a lot of good guys in the dust. Iam sure wentworth has the same number of guys, some from martock and a few from poley. Its understandable to want to put on a good product that you can market to the general public but you could still do that with more guys. Maybe theres other factors I am not aware of but thats just my opinion.

this competition was so sick last year, the set-up was sick, the skiers were good and grand prize is rediculous. hope i can compete in this again this year! guessing the set up will top last years which would be awsome.

last thing i heard is that there is only like 10 skiers in it right now so if you want in just contact jolly or richard coté, maybe threw facebook or the contact info on the crabbe website

I can understand the point of making it an invitational, but honestly there are a lot of legit kids who can throw down that are often overlooked. I know thats why you have the lotto spots but it doesnt take long to see who can throw down and who cant anyways so why not make it an open event? Its not like the Jon Olsson Invitational... Local Maritimes competetions of this size should be an open format to give eveyone a fair chance... I know at least 10 kids out of Wentworth alone that would make a good comp...Just My Opinion...

All very valid points...
We want the Grand Slam to be the premier Slopestyle event in Atlantic Canada. Last year we did elimination format and in order to make it through time constraints we limited it to 32 competitors, 16 skiers, 16 snowboarders. This year we changed the judging format but we wanted to keep the same number of competitors. Ironically with the new format we went a little later than planned. So we'll be tweaking some things next years.
From what I understand, each hill was given two invites (1 skier, 1 snowboarder) so they could pick their best rider. After that they were so called lottery spots where they could pick the best riders available to fill out the rest of the pack. As StefC said earlier, there were very few skier entries whiched opened up a ton more lotto spots, which pretty much turned it into an open style format.
In order to keep the focus on the best of the best. And not having way to many competitors that we can't get the event done in time. How do you guys propose we structure it?
As it was here are the winnersSki1st - Stefan Curtis2nd - Brendan Lawrence3rd - Charles Stevens
Snowboard1st - Brandon Wilbur2nd - Brian Lohnes3rd - Raffael Chenard
A big thanks to Fox Subaru, Burton, Anon, Analog, Billabong, Nixon, Rockstar, R.E.D.
Another huge thanks goes out to all who supported the event.
The Park is in stellar shape right now, we are open until April 13th. Hope you come check it out.

The comp was pretty good, lots of good skiiers turned up, the only thing I would change is maybe get rid of the final round, I just found I got a little cold and tired waiting around a few hours to do more runs, maybe just have 3 runs, top score takes it.

Comp was sooo sick! The park was legit (Thanks to Richard and his crew) and every body threw down! It was my first comp and it was retarded!
