CR Inspired. Why the skiing community is so great.

After hearing of CR Johnsons death today i got to thinking. One reason skiing is so great is because of the community and how the athletes of skiing are so close with eachother, and patrons of the sport. The thing that really puts skiing above other sports in my mind, is how professional skiers are often so easy to strike up a conversation with and you can even just ride with them and hang with them on a days notice. Try doing that with a pro basball or football player? not gonna happen! Thats why, i feel like when hearing about CR's death people 100% feel dispaired and truly sad about this because they know CR was just another skier that loved the sport. Maybe it is because skiing isnt so publizied and kept more out of the public eye but still, i feel like pro skiers truly do care about the sport and i would much rather spend a day skiing with andy parry or steve stepp than watch Albert pujols hit a home run. So yeah maybe you cant just walk up and ski with the simon dumonts, and tanner halls of the sport, but in general i think the skiing fans and community are the coset intertwined than any other sport. by. far.

I was really surprised when I saw Louie Vito and Kevin Pearce's family wishing CR's family the best. That just shows how great of a person he was and how we all benefited from his presence.

RIP CR. 26 years old and has gone through one hell of a ride. Sad to see him go, but his influence is felt strongly in this community. To think that just this morning he was waiting in the line for KT22 with everyone else and this afternoon he was being brought down the hill by SVSP. The clouds were dark over Squaw valley today...

yes thats what is so great about skiing it still is rather unknown at least the world of freesking and because of that we are all one big family. Hopefully we don't lose sight of that in wishing we were in the public eye, because i think we all would regret that. RIP CR

I completely agree. Its amazing how only hours after such a tragic accident the whole freeskiing community has heard about it and is thinking about CR's family and friends and sending all the best their way. The fact that you know a ton of other skiers all over are feeling just as sad as you and thinking about the same thing. Theres comfort knowing you have a whole ski community to turn to.

RIP CR, you were truly an inspiration. Respect.

"My family, my friends and skiing, thats it for me. Thats my life. The Joy I get from skiing, that's worth dying for." - CR Johnson

I feel that the snowboarding community and skiing community in general is very close as well, any skier would feel the same way towards Kevin if he hadn't made it through. Now a days both sports are just as dangerous and require just as much skill and balls to do, which is why our two sports become more and more intertwined (even though the occasional argument may occur between the two).

Yeah dude, its so sad but it just goes to show you how good of friends a lot of the pros are and how they really care about the sport they do. There may not be a lot of money in snow sports but it sure has some great ahthletes

It's like how Travis Rice came up to AK and gave the new of McConkey's death to the TGR guys filming up there. They know a truly great skier when they see one, and we know a truly great snowboarder.
RIP CR
Vibes to Kevin Pearce and Danny Davis.
