COVID-19 And All Of Us

I just wanted to say that everyone that is going thru or about to go thru some serious financial issues, my wife and I are in that as well, and you’re all in our thoughts and prayers. Take a few minutes each day and watch your favorite ski edit to take your mind off things.

vibes, everyone

Prayers indeed. Times are rough. In the last week I lost two jobs, had all my classes moved to online, watched all my friends from the last three years have to move back home cause campus is closed and now my summer internship is in limbo all in relation to this virus. I'm sure that there are endless similar stories among other site members are others we know. Hopefully in a month things are back to normal and people are back to work, class, or whatever it is they do on the day to day.

Unfortunately, I don't think things are going back to normal anytime soon. My guess is that "social distancing" will continue through most of 2020, and we're heading into an economic recession. But, hopefully, we'll all be back on chairlifts next January.

In the meantime, shredsauce is free ;)

Trying to take my mind off it by skinning this weekend. Anyone have a suggestion for good spring skiing in the north east? Okemo looks too warm, Tuckermans looks too cold/icey.

I have a hard time envisioning the public cooperating with social distancing that long. Eventually we have to go back to living life. The virus may still be a thing til the end of the year, but not everyone is going to stay home for the year.

Yeah, I was just reading through the AMA with Bill Gates, and you're probably right, it won't last that long. Hopefully, the US can make the tests more readily available, and track people more efficiently, and things will calm down after a couple of months.

It’s insane how much this has effected everyone’s lives. This really is unprecedented since the 1918 flu pandemic and even then I’m not so sure that compares. Hiking safely out in the bc is a great way to take your mind off of it as well!

That's tough. Ik Killington is close to okemo but they usually make a mini glacier and stay open as long as they can.

Yeah this isn't looking good... I'm building a summer setup now tho so I can at least ski while quarantined once it gets that bad

Yoo that sounds perfect. Sadly my setup has bit the dust but it would be hype to get on the rail trick grind and make a coronavirus edit

Killington and Stratton have decent cover. Well they did. Now it’s raining.

Shits rowdy but well live i hope. Taking a drank and offering a cheers to the people cut off for this season and probably the next. Best of luck in the job hunt.

Not sure if you meant the 1918 flu doesn’t compare to corona or the other way around but that infected 1/3 of the world’s population (500 million) and killed 50 million so that was way worse at least at this point in time

A few of my friends and I have been hiking rails at Okemo recently, and there has been a good amount of people skinning up. Most of the complaints I've heard are that it's too crusty up top... Maybe try it if it's warm and the snow may be fine.

The difference is modern medicine, quality of life, and interconnectedness. It’s comparing apples to oranges.

secondly, this will not last for the rest of 2020. WHO already has a vaccine that will be ready and in supply in 6 months or so according to inside sources

They also thought that having a cylinder with herbs stuck up their nose was an effective way to keep the flu out.

Stop relating this to anything in history it's not the same.

I was comparing the level of how serious coronavirus vs the 1918 flu is being taken and saying that society hasn’t had to take such serious actions since 1918. While I know this likely will not kill 10% of those who get it like the 1918 flu, the virus definitely does have the potential to infect 1/3 of the population in an uncontrolled environment. Which just solidifies the fact of how serious it should be taken

Not to be a downer but we are going so see some real ugly shit before this is over. Think of the massive slums of Brazil and parts of Mexico where this can burn through with no modern healthcare. Its even in Africa now.

There aren’t enough ICU beds for everyone in the US and I know of some hospitals already starting to run out of supplies. You’re in the Colorado right? There is going to be a curfew enacted here soon.

I completely agree. I’m sure many locations will see a 10% death rate. I’m just not too sure the entire world will see a 10% mortality case rate like the 1918 pandemic. I do believe it will be above 3% though which will cause a ton of damage ontop of what we have already seen. What we’re currently seeing is just the tip of the iceberg unless in the next month or so we figure out some therapeutics that are highly effective.

I have not heard about that but restaurants and bars are closed but chains are still allowing delivery or takeout. At this point Im not trusting any restaurants. All it takes is one employee who doenst have symptoms to come to work and breath the virus over all the food at Chipotle. Luckily Im older and have a house and work from home so Im basically going to chill at the castle for the next few weeks. I cant imagine being in your 20s living in downtown Denver in some apartment building right now. Its funny actually because now everyone is going hiking but they are concerned about people getting to close to each other on the trails.

My moms a nurse and she got a little curfew pass thing so not confirmed to happen but likely. Apparently the trails in Boulder were absolutely packed last weekend.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Washington state gets a curfew. It’s crazy up here. I’ve heard rumblings that all domestic travel may be grounded too.

I went from thinking this can't be too bad to totally freaking out in a matter of days. Now on total lockdown but last week I was at work full time and going shopping etc. I hope I was not too late

Same dude. I’m not necessarily worried about getting it myself but I don’t want to pass it to somebody who can’t handle it. Fuck the govt tho for basically telling us it was all chill until literally a week ago.

Yeah although I don't think they really had a clue either....or maybe they did... Who knows..... China did such a great job of locking shit down. Italy has, unfortunately for them, been a great example of what not to do, and US officials are trying to learn from Italy's mistakes. Ohio has been pretty restrictive and we went from 0 to 119 in under a week. If our governor and health department and employers hadn't been so paranoid we'd probably be over 1000 by now easy. Shutting schools, polls, and restaurants were probably some of the biggest factors. Nonessential travel restrictions are next especially after CA already did.

What's kind of sketch are these projections they're making that tens of millions of Americans will eventually get this virus. I think that plus the eerie calm before the storm at work and all the social distancing processes and potential shortages are what has me on edge. I'm actually immunocompromised and all I'm waiting for is some fuck to ignore their symptoms and come in and infect the whole department. We actually had two employees do this yesterday ffs. If I'm gonna get this shit, I hope it's early when there's enough critical care resources available.

Had a couple buddies lose their jobs as well. Hope this stimulus package helps you out and good luck from here on out man! Life will eventually return to normal

Thank you for bringing this up! EVERYONE, all my ski homies - call your creditors and explain your situation. Almost every financial institution has programs setup now to help everyone get thru this COVID situation. My wife and I called some of ours, they were all so kind and helpful.

This shit is getting out of hand for sure. I'm a graduating senior at the moment and all my classes are online for the rest of the semester. Hell, I don't even know if my school is even having commencement because they haven't decided whether or not to cancel it. It's especially harder when you're forced into the real world without notice either, as I had the rest of the semester planned out for job hunting, but now I don't know how everything is going to be once this pandemic is over.

I feel bad for everyone that is losing their job and going though such an abrupt change in their daily lifestyles, as it truly is scary times that we're going through. Vibes go out to everyone affected, and pour out one for the 2019/2020 ski season.

Disastrous for small businesses but none of you care...

big companies probably even gonna get bailout money for the government too on your dime

1% separating themselves from the rest further than we even realize even if one were to assume we are taking the virus too serious or not

Try not to paint everyone on NS in a negative light right off the bat, my man. Nobody needs that right now. I feel awful for small businesses, and I’m sure many others here do as well.

I think taking the virus seriously at this point seems reasonable. Unfortunately tons of people have contempt for any precautions or laws right now or even washing their damn hands.

Nobody is stoked about the economic impact right now but saying we should ignore it, go on as usual, to make sure we don't fuck up the economy seems a bit out of touch.

I hope this is a massive overreaction but idk. Im not an experts. The experts are saying chill the fuck out, and that's what people should do.

All of society is little snowflakes you can’t deny it’s the same for NS

mihht I suggest the over reaction is obvious like duh but just like imagine we gonna literally be wrapping kids in bubble wrap now like fuq it

Been unemployed for a week..get to collect my bennies tomorrow. I’ve left my house twice in the last 5 days, slowly losing my mind but hopefully my parents don’t get sick..

first two confirmed cases in my county today..but there’s probably ~100+ infected. There’s also a bunch of dumb fucks who went on spring break coming back so that just adds to the whole shit sandwich.

honestly if some of my friends who went on their spring break regardless of all this going on get sick It’s gonna be pretty hard to feel bad for them..

I feel that. Its like the dumb fucks in kindergarten who made the rest of the class lose recess time. If everybody just deals with this how they're supposed to, even though it sucks, the suck will be shorter for everyone.

I see what you are saying. A lot of cases in younger people are happening now, and I wonder why. A 16 year old just died from it, and they showed 0 underlying symptoms.

Everyone needs to take this thing seriously. It's no joke.
