I'm you read the article you will see how skating is being exported to Afghanistan as a way to empower young people and promote peace/unity among its population. I was wondering if anyone has thought of doing this for skiing?

I think Afghanistan has tremendous potential in terms of skiable terrain; It has the most Mtn ranges per sq mile of any country on earth and is situated at a pretty high altitude. If the situation there can be stabilized I think Afghanistan could develop an initial niche tourism base by developing ski resorts appealing to freeskiers/snowboarders.

That sounds awesome and very inspirational!

The problem with skiing over skateboarding is, is that it's much more expensive and thus harder to execute. There's not a lot of money in this niche and doing a similar thing with skiing isn't very realistic I'm afraid.

Totally agree, not to mention the costs of running a lift, transporting all of those kids several hours to/from the mountain, and getting all the necessary grooming/etc for the mountain just doesn't sound financially viable without an enormous donation.
While I like skiing way more than skating, let's let skating take the lead on this one. Props to them though, that sounds really cool

Don't they already have resorts there? I'm pretty sure there is at least one in Pakistan. I saw it in a Warren Miller movie or something.
