Could I get some opinions on my buddy's band - Hero Atlantic

My friend Eric did this side project with another kid that goes to college with us (the lead vocalist) and another friend from highschool (drummer). They finally finished their first album, and they're just trying to see how this is going to fly.

I'm trying to help them out doing a little publicity and getting critiques. They set up a myspace and purevolume to showcase some of their stuff. I'd really appreciate it if some of you guys could check them out, and post what you think, and/or friend them. Give them a little more exposure.

Secondly, I'd say their music sounds similar to popular groups like Yellowcard, Cartel, and maybe Sugarcult. And I know for a fact Matt, the lead vocalist, listens to Yellowcard alot to draw some ideas. So don't just waste your time, mine, or theirs pointlessly bashing them, especially if you simply don't like that kind of music in general.

(definitely check out the purevolume page, because my favorite song they posted so far is "Aside" and for some reason Eric didn't put it on the Myspace yet)

gotta pump up that kick drum for sure on the recording that would ad alot more bass all around. I thought Aside was dope as hell. I would buy a cd w, that on it. Mebbe a little variation would help tho, like a ouble time or super hard break down. The other song is sick too tho. Mebbe some screeaming or variation? Something to add a different flavor? Its good skill wise, but generic sound wise.

^ I agree with above. It also sort of sounds like New Found Glory/ Yellowcard. It is somewhat generic. Certainly not terrible. It's not what I listen to and I wouldn't be a huge fan but tons of people are into this type of music and would likely flock to it.

I (speaking for the band) really appreciate the input and constructive criticism guys. And what your saying seems to be the general concensus so far.

Part of the problem I think is that there are only 3 of them. I've always thought it would kinda be a good idea to add another guitar from the start (considering Matt only sings). But it's a good start. Because a little more variation would be key. Matt also has a hell of a voice too. I'm going to try and maybe help out in the prilim song writing stage next time around, and get a lot more out of him. Because like you mentioned some of their stuff, especially the choruses are kinda monotone.

They've pretty much striving for that pop sound. And Eric also told me his dream was to drop out of college, go on tour, make some cash, and sweep 16 year old girls off their feet haha.

Any more?

there's the problem. pop and 16 yr old girls go together easily but pop+16 yr old girls doesn't usually go together with good music. It's gotta have some meaning behind it, some soul. this could explain their monotone sound.

well see heres the thing... obviously that was an over exageration. But I think they've almost taken the whole pop thing too far.

Eric and Mike (the drummer) are both going to be 21 in the fall, and have been playing in bands since like 10th grade. Eric's old band was crazy technical and played some sweet music. They were in that phase where they wanted to be "Unique" and "Individuals". But the problem was... no body else besides them liked their music. Their shows consisted of a bunch of friends and family, maybe a few others, but thats it.

So Eric outgrew that non conformity, and actually wanted to direct their music to the population, and try to actually be successful. But obviously they've taken it a little too far.

I think I can best describe it in a Beer Pong (Beruit) analogy. It's kinda like when you're shooting the ball short of the cup. So what do you do... shoot harder. Most likely over compensating and shooting too far. So it just takes a little time to actually dial your shot down and make the cup. Just like it might take them a little time to find their sound.

But I appreciate the input dude. I posted them, wanting and expecting this. I obviously knew that people we're gonna be like "Omg they're amazing, when are they going to be on the Warp Tour?"

haha, I liked the beer pong analogy. I understand, give em sometime then and they'll find their sound. my opinion is still play what you like, not to conform but I do understand they're trying to make a living.

IMO they seem very generic. Lyrics and sound. As said above, they need to find some soul for their music. It's not bad, it's also not my cup of tea genre wise, but i'm not trying to bash them for it. The guitarist is a little off time. they need to crank up the bass in all their tuens as said above too.  Overall, they are allright, but need something to set them apart

ewww i dont like it at all, but im not into that type of music, but for advise id say

1. change the generic sound, they sound like every 2nd band to ever come out of anywhere...remind anyone else of yellowcard?

2. get rid of that fucking china or splash or whatever that symbal is, it sounds like shit

3. get a drummer that doesnt suck, or come up with some creative beats

4. turn up the bass or just get a bassist (already said, but it would make it a ton better)

5. stop singing about girls
