a good friend of mine wants me to spend approx 6 months in costa rica with him at his brothers house. i know nothing about this country and was wondering if NS had any stories or info about this place from trips or vacations. also i don't speak spanish but am definitely willing to learn, will this make things difficult down there? it sounds like a great country from what i have heard but i have never even traveled outside of the U.S. so im a little nervous.

well ask yourself these questions:

have you ever been raped?

do you know what it feels like to get raped?

do you know how to prevent getting raped?

are you a homosexual? if so, this may not be so bad

lastly,

have you ever been chained in a basement with a 3x2ft window with steel bars over it being used as a sexual slave to 4 hispanaic mutant giants?

I went for thanksgiving two years ago. Besides the fact that I wanted to be home skiing it was an interesting trip. Definitely a neat place to go and visit but I don't know about living down there for an extended period of time. Driving down there is about as dangerous as driving on the wrongside of the autoban. The only real problem I had was three of the five mornings I was there I woke up with scorpions in the clothes I was gonna wear. ha luckily they fell out when I picked them up otherwise my mcnuggets wouldve been toast. The wildlife is nuts down there and its definitely worth a trip but I dont know about six months. Do you know what area you would be staying?

Keep all your belongings close. Petty theft is very common.

Most American houses have razor wire fences and many have personal security guards on the premises

This pretty much sums it up.

And why does your friend's brother have a house there?

The local Spanish club from my high school went there a few years back. A very ugly fat ginger girl went, and took bikini pictures. Every time I hear Costa Rica I am scarred by thinking of those pictures.

i traveled around a lot of the country when i was younger, i loved it. Its really safe for a central american country, everyone's friendly. whether i'd want to spend 6 months their really depends on what region you're in, and what you're doing the whole time. also, get out of San Jose ASAP. if he lives in the city, don't go.

A close friend of mine went down there in the summer and their pictures they took are amazing. they stayed in a small town in a rainforest and used ziplines to travel. If your the outdoors skiier type which im sure you are youll love it man, I'd definatly go if I were you it will change your life.

my sister and my uncle live there.. uncle lives in san jose, sister about 45 minutes east of the city.
amazing surf..
