I don't speak French so they could have said this but unless he took a shoulder on the chin in the hit I think he got hurt more from hitting the ground than the actual hit itself.

I absolutely hate this guy. I hope he gets at least a lifetime ban from the CHL and some form of criminal punishment.
 
So instead of answering what was something of a question in my post you decide to act like an ass. Why am I not surprised?
 
Well if you listened to the sportscaster you would know that it was an elbow to the face. And why does it matter how he got injured? The debate is about what sort of punishment he should get.
 
I don't speak French so how would I know what the word for elbow is in French?

And a season ban would be good but I don't know about lifelong.
 
Why not? That hit wasn't in any way in compliance with the rules of the game. And if you pulled something like that anywhere else, as in outside the realm of pro or high level amateur sport, the popo would be hot on your ass.

Second, Mr. Panda, I would have to disagree, it looked like it was a clean elbow shot and I think he was out before he even hit the ice.

It was an absolute cheap shot and the QMJHL should at the very least suspend him for the season. It looked premeditated, he could have easily dropped his shoulder into that guy. As soon as he stepped on the ice Cormier was going to hit that guy. He skated directly at him. There's nothing wrong with absolutely leveling a guy, it was always my favorite part of playing hockey, but he should have done it cleanly.

I'ver heard so many people talking about this today. Yep it was a rank dirty elbow for sure. I wanna see another angle though. It didnt look that bad or you just couldnt tell from that one till i seen him convulsing on the ice. That was bad. And this guy was our canadian captain?? I would say a suspension of some sort is in order.
 
if bertuzzi didn't get a lifetime ban this guy won't. even though nhl and chl are different. and i think they both deserve it.
 
I agree. Both bertuzzi's cheap shot and this one were premeditated and done with all intentions of injuring another player. There should be no tolerance for players like that. Don't get me wrong I loved laying someone out when I played hockey but not by throwing elbows half a rink away from the puck.

I honestly thought he missed him the first time i watched it... To me it looked like the guys just fell trying to avoid the hit.
 
don't be talking shit about bert. he had his reasons and it was unfortunate that he fell awkardly on the ice and had 8 guys pile on top of him. Steve Moore was a chippy shit disturber anyway and i feel no remorse for him not playing in the nhl anymore. If it wasn't a big name like bertuzzi, not even close to half the publicity would have been made about it. This incident is completely different from the bertuzzi case. In my mind cormier should be assessed an indefinate suspension but in no case banned from the chl.
 
if you had ever actually played hockey you would know it's one of the gayest sports ever. not like, the game itself, but I played hockey all the way through my schooling and that shit is mad gay. not that i care, I'm just saying, dudes walking around with their meat hanging out and whipping eachother with towels or smacking eachother around naked and soapy and wet in a locker room is pretty gay, and goes down pretty often to be a sport that fags don't/can't play. so clearly, you've never actually played hockey, so anything you have to say about hockey is regarded as nonsense.
 
OP is a dumbass, its hockey cheap shit happens all the time. No criminal punishment should be advocated. Some one cross checks some one and breaks the arm of the one receiving it does not mean he should be charged with assault or battery. I might add a suspension should be in order and possible fine if this is professional.
 
A suspension yes but look at one of the greatest open ice checkers of Scott Stevens who did shit like that to people without an elbow all the time... should he have been banned for life? Stevens basically made a career out of blasting people on the suicide center ice pass or the guys crossing the blue line with their head down.

Cormier is such a retard, he should sit out for at least the rest of the season
 
this was my very first thought, too. i used to be on the prowl for someone skating with their head down.

elbow shots happen all of the time. is it dirty? yes. should he be suspended? absolutely. should he be banned because he caught the guy right on the button? absolutely not. if that shot didn't knock the guy out cold, it would have been a 10 minute major and a game misconduct at most.
that being said, I hope the guy is ok.
 


I realize the elbow makes it much more viscous and that is what caused the convulsions but look at what Stevens does to people in the open ice. Should he have gotten a life long ban because he blasted people who kept their head down.
 
Am I the only one who thinks that hit was not that cheap at all? He looked like he was going into check the guy (I know nothing about hockey, when can you check a person? only when they have the puck? if so that might be a little cheap because he did not have the puck.) but it looked like he was just going in for the check, the guy saw him coming and turned so he tried to compensate but got his elbow up and caught the guy. I don't think he was trying to elbow him, I think he was trying to get his shoulder over to get him in the chest.
 
it was a dirty hit dude. you can't throw your elbow up like that. it's against the rules. watch the scott steven's video and then watch the original video. that is the difference between a clean hit and dirty hit.
 
Stevens is my favorite Hockey player of all time almost and he did get away with using his shoulder and elbow in a couple of hits on that vid I posted. Especially the Forsberg and Kariya hits. Kariya especially.

The OP vid though the elbow on a second or third viewing is much more obviously seen though.
 
What about the Kariya hit though? Yeah most of the time the shoulder hits and the elbows flings the guy over his own head but the Kariya hit it almost looks like he charges in elbow up already.
 
guy was my idol growing up. but if you look at his hits, he leads with the shoulder and the arm comes up after the explosion of the impact...almost as a means of keeping balance. Cormier deliberately threw his elbow up as the only point of contact because he wasn't going to catch him clean with a body hit. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

That guy Blake or whatever who used to play for the Avalanche in the years with Roy for the Stanley Cup had some nasty hits too.
 
i'm gay, i played hockey untill freshman year, where i quit to spend more time skiing and. i totally agree, it was a very marchismo atmosphere. was i an excellent hockey player? no, but "fags" can/will/should be able play whatever the fuck sport they want to. fuck off.
annnnnd back to the thread, thats a dirty dirty hit. he should have had his head up, but Cormier should get charged with assault like todd bertuzzi did. that was baaad.

Any of those hits in the Stevens video could have done equal if not greater damage, throwing your shoulder into someones face could have killed those guys. It is a rough game, no one is arguing that.

If the elbow up is the issue then I can see why people are mad, but really it looked like he was trying to get extension, its not like he was trying to catch him with the elbow. Or maybe he was, if so he is a fucking sniper, and an evil douche who should be suspended if not fired.

What I really don't understand is why hockey players are allowed to play with out face masks. You can see just fine in football with a face mask and you have protection from shit like this. Don't you need a face mask in College?

 
Ok dumb hockey history question. Was there anything behind WHY Stevens laid out Forsberg and Kariya like he did? Cuase of his hits those are always the two worst cause Kariya almost looked dead when I saw it on live TV the first time.
 
do you mean koslov & kariya? i don't believe there were any ill intentions behind those hits. that's just the style that steven's played. he was a notorious body checker. it's part of the game. he did it legally.
they were both playoff hits if my memory serves me correctly, and he did what he had to do to help his team win.
 
Alright I thought it could have been like in football or pro fighting where someone says something and the other guy jacks him up for payment essentially.

I was so sad when Stevens retired.
 
i obviously can't attest to what kind of shit talking went on on the ice, but there wasn't any sort of rivalry between stevens and either of those players (to my knowledge).
the hit on Lindros however, well, that's a different story. those two guys were rivals for years since they both held physical roles on their respective teams. I'm sure stevens was just waiting to crush that guy.
i was sad to see him retire, too. such a great player and a great leader.
 
Don't see guys like Stevens and Lindros anymore in hockey. At least, I haven't seen much. Blake was close though.
 
I think the hit is dirty as fuck, but i've been called on elbows just because i was so tall that when i would check a smaller guy my elbow would always just end up at head level, or they were just mad low so it wasn't intentional I guess.

Fuck Patrice Cormier. He's a fucking shithead and after that hit I'd love to kick his face in. I got knocked out from a hit like earlier in early December and my hockey season is done because of it. Patrice, you are a pathetic piece of shit, I hope you are never allowed to step on the ice again.
