Cork 180

quite honestly, i wish nobody ever tries one. for a whole day i tried them and on the last hit i lost my tooth. they definatly arent possible.

why wouldnt they be possible, couldnt you just launch off the jump, get your body into the corked angle, fly through the air sideways and then rotate 90 out of it, or is that just considered off-axis?...ive been thinking about trying a huge one for a while now i think id look sick

there was a video od zach d. doing a cork 1 over a house and landing it, didnt look like a very good landing vut he landed, i cant find the video

its hard to say. personally, i think it takes 180 degrees to become fully corked, and another 180 to unwind, meaning a cork3 is the minimum. i don't see how you could get fully corked in 90 degrees and fully uncorked in the next 90. but, that's just me. it just doesn't work in my brain. it seems like it defies the laws of gravity or something

Ok, first of all, this has been debated many times. Let's get it this time. A corked 180 is essentially, physically not possible. There really isnt an arguement. Its physics. A little off axis yeah, but corked no. It simply does not work. You need that full 360 degrees to right yourself.

However, I said essentially. This is because if you went off a big enough jump, theoritically you could do the first 90 and get your head under your legs, and use air resistence to right yourself. However, the amount of air you would need for that would make Candide or Wilson look like little girls.

So no, the cork 180 is practically impossible.

The Laws of Physics aren't going to explicitly state that a corked 180 on skis isnt possible. It's something that you need to either intuitivally know, use your knowledge of physics to come to the conclusion, or try it 600 times, till your head hurts....

There is no such thing as a corked 180 because you have to make a complete rotation for it to even be considered corked. Honestly people, you are really mixing up corked and off axis. To do corked, you have to do at least a full rotation. There are a few people posting that knows whats up but for everyone else... there is no Santa Claus.

Im no scientist, but I thought that cork was being off axis less than 90 degrees and if you actually went inverted with your feet over your head it was a rodeo or a misty.

so if ur body looks like this |

---.

with skis under it

and to corked ud be like .

---|

when your landing is like so \

\

\

so i dont see that as possible

shit i need to redraw that

= is skis

| or --- is body

regular

|

=

corked 1

nomensteven does not seem to understand. laurent favre CAN do cork 180s. as he says about 1/2 page up from this post. it IS possible. i can do tehm into foam pits, but they are extremely technical. personally, i would rather try a corked 1440 then a corked 180.

I'm sorry, but what Zach Davidson did was nothing closed to corked. Like said, a little off axis (like nonamesteven said) and he paid for it on the landing- as in his head basically went into the snow. Not to take away from his skiing ability though, and neither with Laurent's, but being incredibly good at skiing does not give you the ability to defy physics.

in theory i agree with you man but really, if a twister (see john symns in war)of the like thrown by some pros is possible then it clearly is possible to rotate your body back the way it came from, which is what a corked 180 would neccessitate.

They said it was Physically impossible for Tony Hawk do do a 9, and he did em. And now they're going huge. I'm pretty sure I've seen people do em at my hill, they were VERY off-axis, if not corked.
