Ski brand teams kinda do have a sort of profile though. Like quite a lot of them just don't sponsor people who focus mainly on competition and then there are some which are the opposite. Some brands tend to work with riders more focused on certain aspects of skiing others seem to like skiers who project a certain attitude. So in my opinion not all ski company's have a fit for their team but a lot definitely seem to. Would like to hear from an actual team manager if it is something they consider.

1. It used to be his home mountain when he was young but he now spends a lot of time at blue and MSLM in Ontario and out western canada

It probably does a little more than you'd think. Just like in a job interview - if you have a buddy at the company they can help you cut through the masses of applications as well as pre-prepare the internal people that you'd be a good fit for the position.

Sure it doesn't happen all the time, but having friends / people you ride with at the company definitely makes a difference.

It totally depends on the situation. For sure the athlete has to be a fit with the company for it to work, but insider influence is huge.

Teams aren't a vacuum where there is no communication with the marketing people. Its a very symbiotic thing where *most of the time* everyone is involved in these types of decisions. Companies who know what they're doing involve the team in as many decisions as they are able.

Of course, this is not always the case, and it depends on the company - but I can guarantee you the team not being involved is the exception vs. the rule.
