Recommendations on how to fix this? Never done a core shot fix before

Use a blade and clean up the core shot before using ptex. Lots of info online on how to use ptex, its super easy. Luckily you didn't damage your edge so should be straightforward fix

What he said, plus some pressure on the ptex after you put it in to help it out.
