Core Company durability (or lack thereof)

It seems as though half the threads in this forum are complaining about how their core company skis (4frnt, ninthward, line, liberty etc...) are delaming or ripping out edges or some shit or other. It seems as though the only companies who have solid durability records are Armada (recently), Volkl, K2, rossignol (and i guess Fischer except before the addict no one liked their skis).
 
other then the invader line has been pretty stellar. my firned has darksides from way back in the day when line made skis with sidewall instead of capped and they are fucken bombproof. But your right, Start up companies have to work out the kinks in there production process then they will make a stellar ski. although 4frnt isnt too shabby. Ive never skied ninthward and libertys make me puke when I look at em.
 
i think you are forgetting the king of durability, HEAD. i have never heard a complaint on these forums in about two years of a single problem with a head ski.
 
theres just as many non core skis on here...like i have karmas and gotomas...both very sick, no edge or delam probs at all such solid skis...love volkl
 
You also have to factor in that the core shit breather companies like 9thward, etc.. only sell a few hundred of one model. Then look at the larger companies liker K2 who sell upwards of 5000 of one model. So, if you hear a bunch of kids saying that 9thwards are breaking that is not a very good ratio. When you hear the same amount of people saying that about K2, then it looks like K2s are more durable
 
I used to ride skis from the "core" companies, but quit a few years back because I found that they were all junk. The big companies are big because they make a good product, not because they suck (like a lot of people seem to think). I try to stick to skis that have been proven to be good because I don't want to waste my money on something that's going to delam, crack, blow up, etc.
 
custom powder skis are kind of in a different category than lines and ninthwards.

obviously a very expensive handmade ski will be of higher quality.
 
heads are very durable, line will have fixed the delam problem in 07.

and iggy...not all people have the $$$ or the time to go out and get those babies.
 
im going to have to disagree with you on that one. 1260's, invaders, and hroncs among others have all had durability issues.
 
except for everyone bitching about the cores breaking, but that age is long past.
 
No?? big companies were around since skiing got popular...so if all the companies were small then there were no "core" companies back then
 
How many old school 1080s are still on the hill, and I got the 1st gen PRs and have had nothing other than the core is beginning to die, but hell they are 3 or 4 years old
 
hmmm i think all skis will break, but you have to move on and accept it. don't feel that you have been cheated by the company, or even by god himself, because it's not worth it and you will be smoten by the ski gods for tarnishing the reputation of a ski maker that is trying to do a good thing for the sport...

that didnt make any damn sense did it ?
 
If some one asked you who the big companies were, you would probably respond with rossi, salomon, K2, atomic, and dynastar; right? well they all started making skis a long time ago. None of them started making skis in the last 15 years, they all were also originaly making skis as their first product. None were big companies that decided to move into the the skiing industry after they were succsesfull. They all started out Small. And to talk about comanies getting into skiing because it is popular. Lets look at Ninthward or Armada, it was not started by a coupple of guys who wanted to change something about skiing. They started the business because they thought thwy could make money off of it because it is "popular" And face it if Ninthward could be as big as Atomic they would be. If that is not their goal (to sucseed) they will not be a company in 5-7 years.

So yes big ski companies are really just core companies that were sucsessfull.
