Copper charging for parking alpine lot

Copper's management really pissing off core passholders lately in favor of families who show up at 10am on peak saturdays to take 3 groomer laps and are pissed they can't park close. If you're riding on weekends and are getting pissed you have to park at conoco when you show up that late, you need a reality check about what resort skiing in summit county is today. Dont think I've ever seen overnight cars being a problem at all in such a huge lot either, it's a non issue.

I honestly think ikon is slowly becoming worse than Vail. Unpopular opinion but their tidal wave of shit is slowly growing. Haven’t been too chuffed about my “ikonic” experience this year

It just seems like another way for the rich elite to gatekeep skiing from “dirty and poor ski bums” despite those bums making up a huge majority of the dedicated skiing community.

yup - copper has been a madhouse this year, I've stopped going saturdays altogether. Once you get out of the base areas its not too bad, but I live in Leadville and thinking about going epic next year. My buddy in vail says this year the lines haven't been bad at all. Fuck off with paying for parking in Alpine.

I’ve heard them same. I find copper very annoying but the one I essentially swore off this year was winter park after 4 hours in traffic and then crazy bus lines. Fuck that. Basically have an ikon pass to ski eldora..

ive been sayin for years that ikon is just as bad as epic, nobody listened XD

the ikon pass literally ruined solitude and is partly to blame for LCC/BCC being a disaster.

I can’t speak for Utah but I had it the first year it was released in Colorado and it actually wasn’t that bad. Practically nobody had it. Now everyone has it. I remember when they announced the ikon pass and when the resort purchases were happening. I thought it would force vr to up their game and spread people out a bit across two competitive passes. Boy was I wrong. Just made everything worse.

So no more free lots there now?

Also "would help incentivize carpooling and alternate modes of transportation in a bid to reduce traffic congestion."...LOL

Rich elite? Copper, along with most any other ski area in summit county, is blown tf out on weekends because the middle class is going skiing en masse.

Far East better be free still, they also have parking near the gas station off I-70, but both of those lots take forever to get to the mtn with busses, especially when there's a line to wait for the bus too. Convenient how incentivizing carpooling makes them more money...

Shit, probably time to bail on summit co resorts altogether and just buy a sled

Ah well at least that's free for now. Funny how places think solos are the reason for for congestion. Most skiers travel with at least one other person in the car. This is money making poorly disguised as good intentions.

Idk. It seemed like summit was blown the fuck out 10 years ago. And obviously keeps getting gnarlier. Finding a place to live seems to be a fun hobby if you have to move ever.

I get the appeal, and the original appeal but you have to really like it there to justify staying imo. Some good mtns and outdoors stuff, but other places also have those. Other places also starting to get blown out though less people if they end up building more housing.

I wish I had skated instead of skied as a kid. Skateparks everywhere, don't need to live anywhere cool to skate. I still love the mtns but it'd be nice to not need to be centered around winter sports mtn life.

Definitely feels like a race to bottom between the two sometimes

Coppers my favorite resort overall in colorado, but their management has really been disregarding serious skiers lately. Makes me want to switch up my pass to Loveland sooner than I was planning.

Lived in Leadville as well. Copper and beaver creek. And don't pass over ski cooper

Alpine fills up so fast lately also. I haven't gotten a spot there in months. I get to Copper at like 9 15 and already I have to park at the Conoco gas station parking lot across the highway.

Resorts like Copper on the Ikon and Breck on the epic are just places to avoid to begin with on the weekends because all the main lifts that the majority of people will ride, funnel into the base which only means that the lines will be a mile long and winter park just has the unlucky position of being the closest major resort to Denver making it worse for lines too. Can places like Vail, Steamboat, and Beaver Creek get long lines? yeah because of being destination resorts but thankfully their built where not all of the lifts funnel to the base. Besides, after visiting last year, I think aspen is my new favorite place tbh. A few decent sized resorts and much smaller lift lines. It helps being away from Denver. Vail also fixed their back bowls line shit with a new chair or at least boosted capacity. In general I try to avoid resorts where everything feels like it goes to the base. Just a massive shitshow not just waiting to happen, but already happening no matter what pass they may be on. Also, which resort doesnt charge for parking nowadays anyways and can summit even force copper to do this when brecks airport lot will continue to be free along with keystones lot as well. Maybe its because of how big a shitshow copper can be on presidents day weekend. Had that happen last year and itll keep me from skiing there ever again.
